Abstract: Acrylic and methacrylic acid can be synthesized by catalytic gas phase oxidation of 3-4C alkanes, alkenes, alcohols and/or aldehydes. This process for the production of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid comprises: (A) production of a gaseous product mixture comprising the reaction mixture arising from the (B) condensation of the gaseous product mixture (C) crystallization of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid from the resulting solution. (D) separation of the crystals from the mother liquor and (E) recycling of at least a portion of the mother liquor from (D) to (B).
