Abstract: SYSTEM FOR TESTING MAGNETIC HEAD/DISK INTERFACES Method for measuring the properties of a slider/disk interface in a magnetic disk storage apparatus by measuring a triboelectric current flowing between disk and slider. Rotational speed is adjusted between 100 and 500 rpm so as to obtain a frictional contact between disk and slider. The shape of the tribo current curve obtained during the measuring time interval is analyzed. An early maximum of the tribo current amplitude and a subsequent continual decay indicates a good slider/disk interface and a long lifetime.

Abstract: MAGNETIC DISK SUBSTRATE WITH A CORE OF SYNTHETIC MATERIAL A magnetic disk substrate consists of a core of synthetic material which on both sides is covered with metal foils. The preferably used steel foils have a thickness between 10.mu.m and 300.mu.m, and with their material properties determine the surface micro-hardness as well as the peak to valley height. Onto these surfaces the actual magnetic layer is applied. This magnetic disk substrate is made either through molding under the influence of heat, or through foaming of the space between the two metal foils in a suitable mold.

Abstract: Identically positioned alignment marks are formed on opposite sides of a semiconductor wafer by (i) coating both wafer sides with an insulating layer (2,3); (ii) directing high energy heavy ions onto the front side layer (2), the ions penetrating both layers (2,3) nuclear tracks (4, 4') to form single disturbed lattice nuclear tracks (4, 4') in the layers without disturbing the crystal latt-ice of the wafer; (iii) etching the nuclear tracks (4,4') to form identically positioned pores in the layers; and (iv) using the pores as alignment marks for further processing.
