Abstract: The invention relates to an integrated process for preparing trioxane from formaldehyde, comprising the steps of: a) a stream A 1 comprising water and formaldehyde and a recycle stream B 2 consisting substantially of water and formaldehyde are fed to a trioxane synthesis reactor and allowed to react to obtain a product stream A 2 comprising trioxane, water and formaldehyde; b) stream A 2 is fed to a first low-pressure distillation column and distilled at a pressure of from 0.1 to 2.5 bar to obtain a stream B 1 enriched in trioxane and additionally comprising water and formaldehyde, and the recycle stream B 2 consisting substantially of formaldehyde and water; c) stream B 1 and a recycle stream D 1 comprising trioxane, water and formaldehyde are fed to a second low-pressure distillation column and distilled at a pressure of from 0.1 to 2.5 bar to obtain a stream C 1 comprising predominantly trioxane and additionally formaldehyde and water, and a stream C 2 consisting substantially of formaldehyde and water; d) stream C 1 is fed to a high-pressure distillation column and distilled at a pressure of from 0.2 to 17.5 bar to obtain the recycle stream D 1 and a product stream D 2 consisting substantially of trioxane, in which a removal of the low boilers present in streams B 1 or C 1 may be undertaken between steps b) and c) or c) and d).

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for separating trioxane from an inlet flow (I) consisting of formaldehyde, trioxane and water.Said method consists in a ) preparing an inlet flow (I), which contains formaldehyde as the main compone nt and trioxane and water as auxiliary components, b) mixing the inlet flow (I) with a return flow (VII) containing trioxane as the main component and formaldehyde and water as auxiliary components. Said method also consists in c) distillin g the inlet flow (Ia) in a first distillation step at a pressure of between 0. 1 2.5 bars, thus enabling a flow (II), which contains formaldehyde as the main component and water as the auxiliary component, and a flow (III), which contains trioxane as the main component and water and formaldehyde as the auxiliary components, to be obtained, d) distilling the flow (III), optional ly after separating materials at a low-boiling point from the flow (III) in a l ow- boiling separation step and in a second distillation step at a pressure of between 0.2 17.5 bars, whereby the pressure in the second distillation step is 0.1 - 15 bars higher than the pressure in the first distillation step. A flo w (IV) is obtained which is essentially made of trioxane, and also a flow V which contains trioxane as the main component and water and formaldehyde as the auxiliary components, e) optionally mixing the flow (V) with a flow (IX) , which contains water as the main component, in order to obtain a flow (Va) having a higher water content than flow (V), whereby flow (Va) contains trioxane as the main component and water and formaldehyde as the auxiliary components, f) distilling the flow (V) and/or flow (Va) in a third in distillation step at a pressure of between 1 - 10 bars, whereby a flow (VI), which is essentially made of water, and the return flow (VII), which contain s trioxane as the main component and water and formaldehyde as the auxiliary components, are obtained.

Abstract: A process is provided for increasing the yield in the preparation of polyhydric alcohols obtained from methylolated alkanals by hydrogenation, wherein derivatives of these alcohols are decomposed by adding 5 ppm to 1% by weight, preferably 100 to 1000 ppm, of a suitable acid to an anhydrous mixture containing these derivatives, heating the mixture to temperatures of 100 to 300° C. and then separating off the polyhydric alcohol by distillation. This process makes it possible simply and efficiently to decompose compounds which boil above the polyhydric alcohol and are unwanted by-products of its synthesis.

Abstract: La invencion se refiere a un metodo para llevar a cabo la destilacion pura de trimetilolpropano que proviene de la hidrogenacion de 2,2-dimetilolbutanal a traves de las siguientes etapas: (a) reaccion de n-butiraldehido con formaldehido en presencia de cantidades cataliticas de una amina terciaria e hidrogenacion de la mezcla que se obtiene de tal manera que se forme una mezcla que contiene trimetilopropano; (b) separacion de agua metanol, trialquilamina y/o formato de trialquilamonio mediante destilacion; (c) calentamiento del residuo obtenido en (b), en vacio, a una temperatura en la cual TMP es volatil y a la cual compuestos que hierven a temperaturas mayores que la temperatura de ebullicion de TMP son disociados mientras se separa por destilacion TMP asi como compuestos que son menos volatiles que TMP; (d) destilacion del destilado obtenido en (c) mientras se separan los compuestos -menos volatiles y obtencion de TMP puro; (e) realizacion de la destilacion facultativa del TMP obtenido en (d) con el objeto de obtener TMP que tiene un indice de color alfa bajo. La invencion se refiere tambien al metodo en el cual formato de trialquilamonio es separado por destilacion mientras se conserva, a partir de mezclas brutas que consisten de alcoholes polivalentes, principalmente trimetilolpropano.
