Also mounted within the housing and in engagement with the contact is a retention member which supports the contact within the housing while also imparting a barrier to liquid flow through the housing.     Abstract: A push-pull edge card electrical connector is adapted for receiving an edge of a printed circuit board having contact pads on opposite sides of the board adjacent the edge. The connector includes an elongated dielectric housing having a board-receiving face. An elongated slot is disposed in the board-receiving face generally along a longitudinal axis of the housing for receiving the edge of the printed circuit board. A plurality of pairs of transversely spaced terminal-receiving cavities are disposed on opposite sides of the slot defining two rows of cavities lengthwise of the housing. The pairs of transversely spaced cavities are separated by transverse walls extending generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the housing. A plurality of terminals are received in the transversely spaced cavities. The terminals are in pairs for engaging the contact pads on opposite sides of the printed circuit board. One terminal in each pair is disposed in a respective one of the transversely spaced cavities.

    Abstract: The connector comprises a connector housing having an elongated card slot disposed in it and extending between two opposing end portions of the connector. The card slot has a predetermined longitudinal axis and is adapted to receive the circuit card edge in it in an electrically operative relationship. The connector housing is defined by a pair of opposing sidewalls extending generally parallel to the axis and an endwall integral with and extending between the sidewalls. The endwall has a slot to define a pair of spaced apart, upstanding endwall sections. Each endwall section extends generally perpendicularly from an end portion of one of the sidewalls to define an L-shaped structure. A number of contact terminals are disposed in the housing. Each terminal has a portion positioned in the card slot for slidingly engaging the circuit card upon insertion of ir into the card slot. A latch/eject mechanism is positioned on at least one end portion of the connector housing, and includes a latch/eject member which is rotatable between a first position at which the circuit card is retained within the card slot and a second position at which at least a portion of the circuit card is ejected from the card slot and at which a portion of the latch/eject member extends through the slot in the endwall. The latch/eject mechanism includes a device for limiting the rotation of the latch/eject member during ejection of the circuit card from the card slot. The rotation limiting device includes an engagement surface formed on the latch/eject member. The engagement surface is generally vertical and engages one of the connector housing endwall sections when the latch/eject member is moved to the second position to thereby limit rotation of the latch/eject member. A device rotatably retains the latch/eject member within the housing.

    Abstract: A SIMM socket with a metal latch (120) for retaining a SIMM therein is provided. The socket includes a housing (160) having a SIMM receiving slot (166) and a plurality of terminals (30) with contact beams extending into the slot. The SIMM is inserted into the slot in a first angular alignment with minimal insertion forces, and is rotted into a second alignment for achieving high quality electrical connection with the contact beams of the respective terminals. A metal latch (120) is provided for releasably retaining the SIMM in the preferred angular alignment within the socket. The latch is stamped and formed from a unitary piece of metallic material and includes a housing engaging portion (122) mounted around a mounting post (174) of the housing and a deflectable SIMM engaging portion (130). The housing includes walls for controlling the types and ranges of deflection that are permitted for the SIMM engaging portion.

    Abstract: A surface mounted electrical connector assembly (10) includes a dielectric housing (12) having a mounting peg (32) projecting outwardly from one surface of the housing for insertion into a hole (38) in a printed circuit board (22). The mounting peg is split to define a slot (42) extending through a distal end (44) of the peg. A bifurcated metal retainer member (40) having barbs (50) thereon is disposed in the slot and projects transversely outwardly therefrom for biasingly engaging the board. Inwardly projecting ribs or protrusions (60) are provided on the peg, within the slot, with the ribs being engageable with the metal retainer member (40) when the peg is inserted into the hole in the printed circuit board. The ribs (60) are spaced axially from the distal end (44) of the peg to define the compressibility of the peg. By selecting the point at which the ribs are spaced from the distal end of the peg, a method is provided for varying the relative insertion and retention forces between the connector assembly (10) and the printed circuit board (22) and for accommodating different insertion and retention force requirements.

    Abstract: A card edge connector assembly includes a printed circuit card (10) having an edge (12) and a plurality of first conductive pads (20) arranged in a pattern on one side of the card near the edge, and a plurality of second conductive pads (22) arranged in a pattern on the opposite side of the card spaced inwardly of the edge and the first conductive pads. An elongated housing (24) is provided with a card receiving slot (25) for receiving the edge of the printed circuit card. A plurality of pairs of contact elements (32a, 32b) are mounted in the housing along the length of the slot. Each pair of contact elements includes a short contact element having a spring contact portion (78) for engaging one of the first conductive pads, and a long contact element having a spring contact portion for engaging one of the second conductive pads. The contact portions of each pair of contact elements are spatially overlapped each other in a direction transversely of the slot to increase the deflection capabilities of the contact elements.
