    Abstract: 1299152 Amino-s-triazines DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 3 June 1971 [4 June 1970] 18786/71 Heading C2C Amino-s-triazines of general formula in which X represents a methyl mercapto group or -NR 5 R 6 , and R 1 -R 6 (which may be the same or different) each represent H or a C 1-6 linear or branched alkyl group which can also be substituted one or more times by -OR groups in which R represents a linear or branched C 1-4 alkyl radical, are made by converting at least one methylmercapto group in an s-triazine compound of formula in which Y and Z each represent a methyl mercapto group, or Y represents the group -NR 1 R 2 and Z represents -NR 3 R 4 , to an amino or substituted amino group as defined above in connection with Formula (I), by reaction at elevated temperature with ammonia or the amine from which the corresponding substituted amino group is derived.

    Abstract: In an improved process for the preparation of 1,6-di(N -cyano- N -guanidino)hexane from alkali metal dicyanamide and a hexamethylenediammonium salt in alcoholic solution or suspension, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a limited amount of water and a catalytic amount of a base, preferably a tertiary amine and the pH of the reaction mixture is 8 to 10 at the beginning of the reaction. After the reaction is complete, water is added to the reaction mixture in the heat, above 80 DEG C, and the coarse-crystalline product formed is separated off from the liquid phase. … Preferably, sodium dicyanamide and hexamethylenediamine dihydrochloride, preferably formed in situ from aqueous 1,6-diaminohexane and aqueous hydrochloric acid, are reacted in n-butanol in the presence of 0.1 to 20% by weight of water, relative to the solvent including water, at a pH of 9-9.5. … 1,6-di(N -cyano-N -guanidino)hexane is obtained in a high yield (85-96%) and in high purity (95-97%) and with a substantially increased space-time yield.
