Abstract:
A method for determining a level of exposure to radiation utilizes a radiation dosimeter (10) comprising a substrate (12) provided with a radiation sensitive layer or patch (14) having an optical density which varies in accordance with the degree of radiation exposure. In addition, the substrate is provided with optically readable coding (16a, 16b) which identifies one or more encoded mathematical parameters for enabling an automated calculation of dosage from a detected optical density change of the radiation sensitive material. Each dosimeter is provided with a unique identification code encoded in the bar coding on the dosimeter substrate, to enable memory storage of pre-exposure optical densities for multiple dosimeters.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an acidic non-irritating lotion, cream or ointment for rejuvenating skin and hair which comprises a micronized, homogenized hydrogen of a cross-linked N-vinyl lactam polymer and an organic rejuvenating agent selected from the group consisting of pyruvic acid, a mono- or poly- carboxylated C1 to C20 hydrocarbon optionally substituted with from 1 to 3 hydroxy groups and ammonium and alkali metal salts of said acids and mixtures thereof including mixtures of the acids and/or said salts. The invention also relates to a cross-linked N-vinyl lactam polymer in the form of a stable, homogenized flowable hydrogel having microparticles which can be passed through a screen of between about 40 and about 350 mesh size and to the process for the preparation of the homogenized gel and to its use as a hair and skin conditioner or as a carrier for a cosmetically or pharmaceutically active substance.
Abstract:
What is described herein is a cosmetic composition of an alpha-hydroxy acid, such as lactic acid or glycolic acid, or a beta-hydroxy acid, such as salicylic acid, and a polyvinylpyrrolidone-complexing agent, or derivative thereof, in a suitable solvent, useful for the treatment of skin problems, with only minimal skin irritation for the user.
Abstract:
Low VOC hair spray resin compositions containing homogeneous terpolymers of vinyl pyrrolidone, vinyl caprolactam and 3-(N-dimethylaminopropyl) methacrylamide are described. The hair spray compositions are made using a solution of the terpolymer which is clear and low in viscosity, and which provides a spray of relative small particle size. The hair spray compositions exhibit an effective high humidity curl retention property.
Abstract:
This invention relates to stable colorless concentrates and stock solutions of 1-5 % cross-linked lower alkyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymers having a Brookfield viscosity of up to about 25,000 cps and to the process for their preparation.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a 0.5 to 7 wt.% solids hair fixative composition having superior moisture resistant hold and minimal tack duration which provides a stiff film on artificial or human hair and superior hair combability, which composition essentially contains a resin mixture of (a) a terpolymer derived from about 17 to about 30 wt.% N-vinyl pyrrolidone, from about 60 to about 80 wt.% N-vinyl caprolactam and from about 3 to about 6 wt.% di-C1-C4 alkyl amino-C1-C4alkyl-acrylate or methacrylate having a number average molecular weight of between about 20,000 and about 200,000 and (b) an N-vinyl pyrrolidone/vinyl acetate copolymer having a number average molecular weight of between about 10,000 and about 100,000; combined in a weight ratio of 1.4-6:1 (a) to (b). In the present composition, the vinyl acetate moiety of N-vinyl pyrrolidone/vinyl acetate copolymer interacts with resin (a) to reinforce stiffness and holding properties under conditions of extremely high humidity and materially lowers the duration of tackiness during drying.
Abstract:
A filter apparatus having a filter bag subassembly (14) for collecting contaminating material is disclosed. The filter bag subassembly (14) includes five diametrically and axially-spaced bags (58, 98, 100, 102, 104) and an integral collar (60). The five spaced bags (58, 98, 100, 102, 104) form five spaced chambers (130, 132, 134, 136, 138) within cavity (20) and the integral collar (60) has a stepped shape forming five cylinder support portions (62, 90, 92, 94, 96) for the five spaced bags (58, 98, 100, 102, 104).
