Abstract: Heat exchangers (I) comprising hollow panels, each of which has an inlet and outlet for heat-transfer fluid and comprises two plates that are welded together around the edge and at various points, lines or areas internally, are used as evaporators and/or condensers in processes for producing polymerizable monomers. An Independent claim is also included for a process for producing (meth)acrylic acid from a mixture of (meth)acrylic acid and a higher-boiling solvent, comprising distilling the mixture in a column which is connected to an evaporator of type (I) and has stripping and concentrating zones, between which the mixture is fed, a side outlet for (meth)acrylic acid, and top and side inlets for polymerization inhibitor, the amount of inhibitor supplied to the top inlet being less than that supplied to the side inlet.
