Abstract:
An engine tappet is constructed with flat, essentially parallel or conformal bearing walls (36,40) internal of its case for the introduction during no-load operation of a lubricant under pressure to the space between the surfaces, the pressure level of the lubricant being greater than the force necessary to remove lash in the system, to thereby create an oil film between the walls (36,40) that is partially squeezed out during load operations of the cam (20) event to in effect float one part upon the other to reduce rotational friction.
Abstract:
A hydraulic lash adjuster has a generally cylindrical, hollow body having a closed end, an open end and a top land at the open end. A plunger is positioned in the body and is held in place by a retainer. The retainer is fastened to the exterior of the body. the retainer has a rim supported on the top land of the body and is held in place by tabs which are folded under into grooves in the side of the body.
Abstract:
A hydraulic lash adjusting tappet for an internal combustion engine of the type supplying oil to a passage communicating with the tappet-receiving guide bore in the engine. The tappet has a roller follower on the cam end and a registration means adjacent the opposite end for orienting the roller with respect to the engine cam. The tappet body has at least one localized collector recess disposed longitudinally coincident and peripherally spaced with the registration means. In one embodiment the registration comprises a pair of oppositely disposed flats and the tappet has a pair of diametrically opposed collector recesses interconnected by a peripheral groove spaced longitudinally therefrom to by-pass the flats and provide sufficient surface for leakage control. An oil inlet hole is formed in one of the collector recesses for supplying the lash adjuster valve in the tappet. The localized recess is aligned with the engine supply passage by the orientation of lthe registration surface. I
Abstract:
A resevoir height extender for a lash adjuster assembly (150) comprising an inverted hollow insert member (60) disposed in fluid resevoir chamber (42) within a plunger member (40) of assembly (150). Plunger member (40) is reciprocally moveable within a bore (38) of a body member (36) having a first fluid passageway (48) adapted to receive fluid from a fluid source and which communicates with a second fluid passageway (46) in plunger member (40) adapted to enable the fluid to flow into fluid resevoir chamber (42). Insert member (60) is displaced from a wall of plunger member (40) surrounding chamber (42) for a distance sufficient to provide a third fluid passageway (68) therebetween which communicates between passageway (46) and an opening (64) through insert member (60) that is higher than passageway (46) and which enables a substantial increase in the level of fluid within resevoir chamber (42).
Abstract:
Abstract:
A switch element (1) for valve actuation in an internal combustion engine is disclosed, preferably for valve closure, comprising a simply achieved measure for adjustment of the coupling play, the coupling means (8) for which are retained in a recess by means of two securing rings (19, 20), the thickness of one of which may be varied.
