Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing cyclohexanedicarboxylic acids or derivatives thereof, such as esters and/or anhydrides, encompassing the reaction of diene/maleic acid anhydride mixtures, in particular of butadiene/maleic acid anhydride mixtures or of mixtures of maleic acid anhydrides and C5-dienes to give alkyl-substituted or unsubstituted cyclohexenedicarboxylic acid anhydrides in the condensed phase, ester formation, and then hydrogenation to give the corresponding cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid derivative, and also to the use of the cyclohexanedicarboxylic acids or derivatives thereof prepared according to the invention as plasticizers for plastics.

Abstract: Sequential production of a library of N different solids (especially heterogeneous catalysts) whereby N reaches an integer >= 2 in one day involves dosing solutions, emulsions and/or dispersions into a mixer and drying the mixture, the ratios in the dosing step being varied and the dosing, drying and variation steps being repeated N-1 times. Sequential production of a library of N different solids (especially heterogeneous catalysts) whereby N reaches an integer >= 2 in one day involves (a) production of (i) >= 2 different sprayable solutions, emulsions and/or dispersions of elements and/or compounds providing chemical elements as solids and optionally (ii) inorganic carrier dispersions; (b) continually dosing the solutions etc. in predetermined ratios into a mixer to give homogeneous mixing; (c) continuously drying the mixture and removing it from the mixer; (d) varying the ratios in step (b) and repeating the steps (b), (c) and (d) N-1 times to recover N different dry mixtures; and (e) optionally forming and optionally calcining the mixtures to yield solids. Independent claims are also included for (1) an apparatus for the sequential production comprising >= 2 vessels for the solutions etc., a mixer, pumps and interconnecting tubes for the vessels and the mixer, a dryer connected to the mixer, and a central computer controlling the pumps and (2) parallel testing of the solids library for desired catalytic properties by separately introducing the individual solids into multi-reactors and then testing them.

The reflection (h ) is the one with the strongest intensity within the X-ray diffraction pattern and having a full width at half height of not more than 0.50; the intensity (Pi) of the reflection (i) and the intensity (Pk) of the reflection (k) fulfill the relationship that R is 0.65-0.85, where R is the intensity ratio defined by the formula R = Pi/(Pi + Pk); and the full width at half height of the reflection (i) and of the reflection (k) is in each case at most 10. The catalytically active multimetal oxide material is of formula (I). Mo1VaM1bM2cM3dOn (I). M1 = element(s) from the group consisting of Te and Sb; M2 = element(s) from the group consisting of Nb, Ti, W, Ta and Ce; M3 = element(s) consisting of Pb, Ni, Co, Bi, Pd, Ag, Pt, Cu, Au, Ga, Zn, Sn, In, Re, Ir, Sm, Sc, Y, Pr, Nd or Tb; a = 0.01-1; b = 0-1; c = 0-1; d = 0-0.5; n = number that is determined by the valency and frequency of the elements other than oxygen in formula (I).

Multi-metal oxides containing molybdenum and vanadium also contain other metals and have an X-ray diffraction pattern with lattice spacings (d(A)) as follows: 3.06 +/- 0.2; 3.17 +/- 0.2; 3.28 +/- 0.2; 3.28 +/- 0.2; 3.99 +/- 0.2; 9.82 +/- 0.4; 11.24 +/- 0.4; and 13.28 +/- 0.5, the oxides being of formula (I); Aa(Mo5-b-cVbXcOd)1 (I); A = NH4, Na, K, Rb, Cs and/or Tl; X = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, W, Mn, Re, Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd, Hg, B, Al, Ga, In, C, Si, Ge, Sn, Pb, P, As, Sb, Bi, S, Se and/or Te; a = 0-1-1; b = 0.25-4.5; and c = 0-4.5, with the proviso that (b + c) at most 4.5. Abstract: A method for the production of 4-vinylcyclohexene involves dehydrogenation of a feed gas containing n-butane followed by cyclodimerization of the resulting butadiene. A method for the production of 4-vinyl-cyclohexene (VCH) involves: (A) preparation of a feed gas stream containing n-butane; (B) dehydrogenation of the n-butane to give a product stream containing butadiene, n-butane, possibly 1- and 2-butene and possibly water vapor and other components; (C) catalytic dimerization of butadiene in the product stream to give a product stream containing VCH, n-butane and possibly 1-butene, 2-butene and unreacted butadiene; and (D) separation of VCH, with recycling of n-butane etc. to stage (B). Independent claims are also included for: (1) a method (M1) for the production of ethylbenzene (EB) or styrene (S), involving stages (A-D) as above followed by (E) catalytic dehydrogenation of VCH to EB or oxidative dehydrogenation in presence of oxygen to give S; (2) a method (M2) for the production of styrene (S) by (B') feeding a n-butane-containing stream and a VCH-containing stream into a dehydrogenator and dehydrogenating the mixture in presence of oxygen to give a mixture of styrene (S), butadiene, n-butane, 1- and 2-butenes and possibly EB etc., (C') separating the S, EB and other high-boiling by-products, (D') dimerizing the butadiene/butane/butene-containing stream to give a stream containing VCH, butane and butenes etc., (E') separating VCH from this stream and passing it to the dehydrogenator.
