The concentration of the aqueous solution is preferably >=0.01%.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled thermoreversible polymer which is soluble in water at low temperatures while insoluble in water at high temperatures and is suitable for temperature sensors, light-screening bodies, etc., by radical- polymerizing N-ethoxyethyl(meth)acrylamide. CONSTITUTION:The purpose thermoreversibly hydrophilic acid hydrophobic polymer of formula II (wherein n>=2) is obtained by radical-polymerizing N- ethoxyethyl(meth)acrylamide of formula I (wherein R1 is H or methyl). As a process for polymerizing this compound, a solution polymerization process is usually preferable, and one comprising dissolving the compound of formula I in a solvent (e.g., benzene) and irradiating the solution with a radiation or heating it in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator can be adopted, for example. The compound of formula I can be produced by, for example, reacting (meth)acryloyl chloride with 2-ethoxyethylamine and triethylamine in benzene.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel reversible heat-sensitive water-releasing agent having such a unique property that, although the agent is soluble in water at a specific temperature of lower, at a higher temperature than the specific temperature, an aqueous solution of the agent exhibits a viscosity increase, gels while keeping its initial form, shrinks in size through releasing water and is subsequentry solidified, and the resultant solid turns back to an aqueous solution when cooled to a temperature lower than the specific temperature. SOLUTION: This agent comprises a water solution containing a copolymer which consists of a constituent unit derived from a monomer which, when homo- polymerized, forms a polymer exhibiting a reversible hydrophilic-hydrophobic change with temperature and a constituent unit derived from an ethylenic unsaturated compound having both a hydrophilic group and a hydrophobic group, wherein the content of the latter constituent unit is 0.001-10 mol% of the total amount of the copolymer and the weight average molecular weight is 1,000,000-10,000,000.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-sensitive gel micro-bead producible without using a step to remove a cationic or anionic surfactant from a polymerization product and provide its production process. SOLUTION: The objective micro-bead is composed of a copolymer containing (A) a monomer unit forming a heat-sensitive polymer by polymerization and (B) a crosslinkable monomer unit as constituent units and has particle diameter range of 10-1,000 nm. It can be produced by adding a surface-active monomer having hydrophilic group and hydrophobic group to an aqueous solution containing a monomer forming a heat-sensitive polymer by polymerization and a crosslinkable monomer to a concentration above the critical micelle concentration and copolymerizing the monomers in micelle in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator at a temperature above the transition temperature of the produced copolymer.

SOLUTION: This pH-sensitive and heat-sensitive microbead is produced by further adding a cationic surfactant or an anionic surfactant at the critical micelle concentration thereof to an aqueous solution containing a mixture of 1-40 mol.% at least one polymer selected from polyacrylic acid and polymethacrylic acid with 99-60 mol.% at least one monomer selected from an unsaturated amide represented by the formula (R is hydrogen atom or methyl group; at least either one of R and R is an alkyl group or an alkoxyalkyl group and the remaining other is hydrogen atom) and a cross- linking agent and carrying out the intramicellar reaction at a temperature of the cloud point or above thereof.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the temp.-sensitive gel in the form of a fine powder, thin film, etc., having excellent responsiveness by irradiating the high-polymer mold ing formed by the water insoluble salt of a high-polymer electrolyte to cover the surface of the temp.-sensitive high polymer with gamma rays or electron rays. CONSTITUTION:A gel preparing liquid contg. the temp.-sensitive high polymer of an N-substd. acrylamide high polymer, etc., and the water soluble salt of the high-polymer electrolyte, such as sodium alginate, is introduced into a solid bath of an aq. water soluble metal salt soln. of barium chloride, calcium chlo ride, etc., which form the insoluble salt with this high-polymer electrolyte. Then the water insoluble salt of the high-polymer electrolyte covers the surface of the temp. sensitive high polymer and forms the high-polymer molding which hardly exhibits tackiness. This molding is irradiated with the gamma rays or electron rays without being dried to dry the temp.-sensitive high polymer. The gel having the excellent responsiveness with the reversible form change, etc., in response with a temp. change in the presence of water is obtd. in this way.

The vinylic compound of the formula is a colorless liquid, soluble in water, methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, acetone, THF, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, etc., and insoluble in n-hexane and n-heptane. The radical polymerization of the compound of the formula gives a hydrophilicity-hydrophobicity thermally reversible polymeric compound.
