    Abstract: The invention relates to a degreasing agent for treating skins, fur, limed skins and other intermediate products in leather and fur production, and for treating wool or related protein substances, based on non-ionic surfactants of the alcohol alcoxylate type. Alcohol alcoxylates are used which are obtained by reaction with at least one alcohol ROH with n mols of at least one alkylene oxide per mol of alcohol ROH, wherein R represents an alkyl radical containing between 5 and 30 carbon atoms, and having a main chain which contains between 4 and 29 carbon atoms and is branched in the centre thereof with at least one C1 - C10 alkyl radical; the alkylene oxide comprises between 2 and 6 carbon atoms; and n represents a whole number between 1 and 100. The invention also relates to a method for degreasing skins, fur, limed skins and other intermediate products in leather and fur production, and for treating wool or related protein substances, a degreasing agent according to the present invention being used. The invention further relates to the use of said degreasing agent.

    Abstract: The alkoxylate mixtures comprise alkoxylates of the formula (I) C5H11CH(C3H7)CH2O(B)p(A)n(B)m(A)qH(I) where A is ethyleneoxy, B, in each case independently, are C3-10-alkyleneoxy or mixtures thereof, groups A and B being present in the form of blocks in the stated sequence, p is a number from 0 to 10, n is a number greater than 0 to 20, m is a number greater than 0 to 20, q is a number greater than 0 to 10, p+n+m+q is at least 1, from 70 to 99% by weight of alkoxylates A1, in which C5H11 is n-C5H11, and from 1 to 30% by weight of alkoxylates A2, in which C5H11 is C2H5CH(CH3)CH2 and/or CH3CH(CH3)CH2CH2, being present in the mixture.

    Abstract: Evaluation of emulsifiers comprises preparing at least two crude emulsions in which the dispersed phase contains different tracers, mixing together equal parts of the emulsions, finely emulsifying the mixture, and determining to proportion of coalesced dispersed-phase droplets by measuring the area occupied by droplets containing at least two tracers as a percentage of the total area occupied by the sample. Independent claims are also included for: (1) use of a continuous high-pressure homogenizer in which the whole emulsion is forced through a perforated diaphragm under constant pressure to perform the emulsification in the above method; (2) use of reactive dyes, direct dyes, vat dyes, sulfur dyes, naphthols, developer dyes, disperse dyes, metal complex dyes, acid dyes, chrome dyes, cationic dyes or pigments, fluorescent dyes or fluorescence-generating donor-acceptor pairs as tracers in the above method; (3) use of emulsifiers selected from oleic acid ethoxylates, fatty alcohol ethoxylates, castor oil ethyoxylates, alkylphenol ethoxylates, C13 Oxo alcohol ethoxylates and sodium fatty alcohol polyglycol ether sulfates in the above method; (4) use of emulsifiers together with coemulsifiers in the above method; (5) use of active ingredients and/or additives in the aqueous phase and/or oil phase of the emulsion in the above method; (6) use of a microscope slide allowing preparation of emulsion films with a defined thickness of 10-50 mum for microscopic determination of the area percent of tracer-containing droplets in the above method.
