    Abstract: Hollow prods. (I) are obtd. from semi-finished thermoplastic sheet (II); (II) is polyether-sulphone, polyimide or polycarbonate and the semi-finished sheet is treated with the vapour of a liq. with b.pt. close to the glass temp. (TG) of (II). Pref. liq. is a fluorinated hydrocarbon. The process is carried out in a mould which is not tightly closed. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple process for the prodn. of (I) (e.g., air piping for passenger aircraft). The process is less expensive than blow moulding or twin-sheet thermoforming processes, and is used esp. for small-medium prodn. runs. In an example, a coloured sheet of polyether-sulphone (150 x 150 x 3 mm), was immersed in Fluorinert (RTM) vapour, and rapidly heated to 215 deg.C by the vapour condensing on the sheet; this caused the sheet to delaminate in the middle, producing a cushion-shaped hollow moulding with a rough internal surface and unchanged external structure.

    Abstract: For the interior lining of passenger compartments, a multilayered panel is proposed, which comprises at least two layers which are bonded to each other shear-resistantly and consist of polyether or polythioether reinforced with fibre substances, one layer being designed such that in one direction it is of an at least approximately meandering form or wave form. Substances which preferably come into consideration as fibre substances are those of glass or oxide ceramic.
