Abstract: New copolymer prepd. by radical polymerisation, comprising: (A) 30-99.9 wt.% main monomers chosen from 1-20 C alkyl(meth)acrylates, 1-20 C carboxylic acid vinyl esters, vinyl aromatic cpds. with up to 20 C atoms, ethylenic unsatd. nitriles, vinyl halides or 2-8C aliphatic hydrocarbons contg. 1-2 double bonds; (B) 0.01-5 wt.% mixt. of hydrolysable silicon cpds. comprising: (B1) ethylenic unsatd. copolymerisable silicon cpds., and (B2) ethylenic satd. silicon cpds. bonded to the polymer chain during copolymerisation to act as regulators, the wt. ratio of (B1) to (B2) being 0.01-1:1-0.01; and (C) 0-69.99 wt.% monomers other than (A) or (B). Also claimed are sealing, bonding and coating materials contg. the copolymer and opt. at least 20 wt.% filler (wrt material).

Abstract: Polymer-based adhesives are claimed, contg. 0.2-80 wt%(w.r.t. polymer) of oligopropene derivs. of formula (I), (II) or (III) (where n = 0-100; X = a gp.) with a mol. wt. of less than 300 contg. at least one copolymerisable olefinic double bond or a reactive H atom. Also claimed are substrates coated with these adhesives. Pref. the polymer has a Tg of -50 to+40 deg C and contains 1-65 wt% (I-III). Pref. polymer is obtd. by polymerisation of (a) 20-99.8 wt% 1-10C alkyl (meth)acrylate, vinyl 1-20C carboxylate, up to 20C vinylaromatic, unsatd. nitrile, vinyl halide, 1-10C alkyl vinyl ether and/or 2-8C aliphatic mono- or di-olefin as main monomer, (b) 0.2-80 wt% (I), (III) or unsatd. oligomer (II) and (c) 0-50 wt% other comonomers; or a mixt. of 50-99.8 wt% (a) and 0.2-50 wt% (c) is polymerised first and then reacted with oligomer (II) contg. a reactive H atom.

Abstract: Radically-curable reactive adhesives (I) are based on olefinic monomers (II) contg. soluble or dispersible rubbery polymers (III) and radical-forming polymerisation initiators; the novelty is that 1-80 wt.% of (II) consists of N,N',N''-tris(methacryloyl-oxyethyl)-isocyanurate (IV). Pref., 2-30 wt.% of (I) consists of glass microspheres, surface-modified with reactive organic gps. (V). Pref. (I) contain 60-85 wt.% alkyl (meth)acrylate (e.g. n-Bu, 2-ethylhexyl, etc.), vinyl acetate, styrene, acrylonitrile, etc. (II), butadiene copolymer rubber, etc. (III), with benzoyl or other peroxide and reducing agent as initiator system. USE/ADVANTAGE - W.r.t. prior-art reactive adhesives, (I) have improved adhesive properties, esp. tensile shear strength and stability at high temp. (e.g. above 100 deg.C.).
