    Abstract: Polyglycerine fatty acid ester mixts. (I) obtd. by partial esterification of polyglycerine mixts. can be used as emulsifiers in cosmetic and pharmaceutical prepns. The polyglycerine mixts. consist of 0-5 wt% monoglycerine, 15-40 wt% diglycerine, 30-55 wt% triglycerine, 10-25 wt% tetraglycerine, 0-15 wt% pentaglycerine, 0-10 wt% hexaglycerine and 0-5 wt% higher polyglycerines and are partially esterified to a deg. of 20-70% with at least one unsatd. 16-22C fatty acid contg. up to 10 wt% satd. 16-22C fatty acids. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) can be used as water-in-oil emulsifiers in cosmetic and pharmaceutical prepns. with considerably improved storage stability with the cosmetics and pharmaceuticals emulsified in them, than is usual with water-in-oil emulsions which are more difficult to stabilise than oil-in-water emulsions. Using (I) it is possible to use lower concentrations to achieve the same effect than is the case with conventional emulsifiers. There is no need to bleach (I) after they have been prepd.; thus prods. using (I) are better tolerated by the stain and the body.

    Abstract: The use of mixts. (I) of polyglycerol (PG) fatty acid esters obtd. by partial esterification fo PG mixts. (PGM) with at least one 12-22C fatty acid or 16-22C unsatd. fatty acid as emulsifiers in cosmetic and pharmaceutical prepns. is new. PGM comprises (wt.%): monoglycerol (A) (0-5), diglycerol (B) (15-40), triglycerol (C) (30-55), tetraglycerol (D) (10-25), pentaglycerol (E) (0-15), hexaglycerol (F) (0-10) and higher PG (0-5). TGhe unsatd. fatty acid (mixt.) may contain up to 10 wt.% of 16-22C satd. fatty acid and the deg. of esterification of the fatty acids is 20-70%. The amounts of PG in the mixts. are pref. (wt.%): (A) (0-5), (B) (20-40), (C) (35-55), (D) (10-20), (E) (5-10), (F) (1-5) and higher PG (0-5). The fatty acid (mixt.) comprises at least 40 wt.% stearic acid or at least 60 wt.% oleic or erucic acid. The deg. of esterification is 25-50%.
