A number of vanes ( 2 ) are mounted in the region of the hub ( 1 ) of the impeller ( 28 ) in such a way that pumping spaces ( 5, 25 ) on the front side ( 7 ) and rear side ( 8 ) of the impeller ( 28 ) are flowed through uniformly.

    Abstract: A process for preparing polymer dispersions of at least one of the polymerizable monomers from the groups consisting of alkyl (meth)acrylates, vinyl esters of carboxylic acids having 1-20 carbon atoms, vinylaromatic compounds, nitrites, vinyl halides, vinyl ethers, hydrocarbons having 2-8 carbon atoms, and hydroxyl-containing monomers in emulsion polymerization technology at a polymerization temperature of at least 40° C., in the presence of a free-radical polymerization initiator, which comprises preparing the polymer, which forms to at least 85% by weight from one or more of these monomers. In a first stage, water, as reaction-inert solvent, dispersing assistants where appropriate, seed where appropriate, and a first portion of monomer(s), where appropriate, are introduced. In a second stage, the initiator is added, and in a third stage, the remainder or full amount of monomer(s) are added directly or in emulsion form in the presence of further water and, where appropriate, further dispersing assistant or other auxiliaries. It is possible for the first and second stages or second and third stages in each case also to be run in one stage while second and third stages can be run through in a gradient procedure, and in all or some stages the reaction mixture present as a dispersion is moved by an external circuit ( 10 ) which leads from and back to the polymerization vessel ( 2 ) and which comprises one or more extremely low-shear-conveying cylinder or tubular diaphragm pumps ( 7 ) and at least one heat exchanger ( 8 ), the polymerization temperature being between 40° C. and 120° C.

    Abstract: A 3-step process for preparation of polymer dispersions from monomers by emulsion polymerization involves: (a) addition (sic) of water as inert solvent and dispersion agent; (b) addition of initiator; and (c) addition of part or the whole amount of monomers directly or as an emulsion in the presence of further water and emulsion polymerization at 40-120 deg C is new. A process for preparation of polymer dispersions from monomers from alkyl (meth)acrylates, 1-20C vinyl esters of carboxylic acids, vinylaromatic compounds, nitriles, vinyl halogens, vinylether, 2-8C hydrocarbon with one or two double bonds, or OH group containing monomers by emulsion polymerization at least at 40 deg C in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator. At least 85% of the polymer obtained from one or more of these monomers is prepared in the three steps: (a) addition (sic) of water as inert solvent and dispersion agent; (b) addition of initiator; and (c) addition of part or the whole amount of monomers directly or as an emulsion in the presence of further water and optionally dispersing agent, and emulsion polymerization at 40-120 deg C. Steps (a) to (c) can be individual steps or can be part of a gradient process, and in the individual or all the stages the reaction medium dispersion is fed to the polymerization vessel (2) through an external circuit (10), which has one or more low shear cylinders or membrane pumps (7) and at least one heat exchanger (8) of essentially laminar streaming profile. An Independent claim is included for the apparatus for storage and addition of the reaction and adjuvant materials, a reaction vessel (2), a heating/cooling jacket (3), a device (6) for discharging the vessel (2), an external circuit (10), with one or more low shear supply cylinders or membrane pumps, at least one heat exchanger (8) with a laminar or turbulent profile ,and connecting pipes (20).
