    Abstract: Polyalkylamine derivatives of formula ZCH2NH2-nHn (I) are new. (where, n = 0 or 1; z = polyalkyl residue of molecular weight 150-40000; Y = residue of formula (IIa) or (IIb); R, R1 and R2 = H, optionally substituted alk(en)yl, alkinyl, and optionally substituted cycloalkyl, aryl(alkyl) having heteroatom(s); A = alkylene imine residues of formula (III); m = 0-10; Alk = optionally substituted alkylene; R3 = H, alk(en)yl, alkinyl, or aryl or when Y is a residue of formula (IIa) keto residue of formula (IVa); in (IVa): R = as above or when Y = group of formula (IIb), is a cyano residue of formula (IVb) (where, R1 and R2 = as above) or when n = 0 one of the residues Y is optionally a polyoxyalkylene residue (V) (where, q = 1-30; Alk = as above; and E = H or 1-6C alkyl). Preparation of the derivatives is also claimed. Also claimed are lubricant and fuel compositions containing the above derivatives.

    Abstract: Described is a method of preparing aldehydes, or aldehydes and alcohols, by the hydroformylation of olefins with more than three carbon atoms, the method including a hydroformylation stage in which the olefin is hydroformylated at a pressure of 50 to 1,000 bar and a temperature of 50 to 180 DEG C by means of a rhodium catalyst dissolved in a homogeneous reaction medium and a catalyst-recovery stage in which the rhodium catalyst is extracted using an aqueous solution of a complexing agent, the alcohol and/or alkdehyde is isolated from the extracted hydroformylation products, the aqueous rhodium-containing extract is carbonylated in the presence of carbon monoxide, synthesis gas or a gas mixture containing carbon monoxide at a pressure of 50 to 1,000 bar and a temperature of 50 to 180 DEG C, the carbonylation products separated into an organic phase containing most of the rhodium and an aqueous phase containing the complexing agent and the organic phase is fed back to the hydroformylation stage, the rhodium catalyst obtained from the products of the hydroformylation stage being extracted with an aqueous solution of a water-soluble polymer, without any sulphonic acid groups, capable of forming a complex with rhodium.

    Abstract: The invention concerns the use of polymers which can be produced by reacting (a) polymers containing vinylamine units with (b) compounds comprising aldehyde or keto groups and optionally (c) compounds comprising NH groups and/or OH groups, and which further have aminal, semi-aminal and/or aminal-acetal structures and optionally non-reacted vinylamine units as additives to detergents for inhibiting the transfer of dye during the washing process. The invention further concerns polymers which contain aminal, semi-aminal and/or aminal-acetal structures and which are obtained by reacting (a) polymers containing vinylamine units with (b) compounds comprising aldehyde or keto groups and (c) compounds comprising NH groups and/or OH groups. The invention also concerns detergents containing the above polymers in amounts ranging from 0.05 to 10 wt %.
