Abstract: A process for the distillative recovery of high purity monoethylene glycol from the hydrolysis, product of ethylene oxide by pressure dewatering, preferably in a battery, vacuum dewatering and subsequent purifying distillation, wherein during the vacuum dewatering an aqueous stream is withdrawn which contains-monoethylene glycol in a concentration below 1% by weight, preferably below 0.1% by weight, medium boilers and low boilers. The withdrawn aqueous stream is, optionally after further workup, removed from the system.

Abstract: A process for preparing tri- and tetraoxymethylene glycol dimethyl ether (POMDMEn=3,4) by reacting formaldehyde with methanol and subsequently workin g up the reaction mixture by distillation, comprising the steps of: a) feeding aqueous formaldehyde solution and methanol into a reactor and reacting to gi ve a mixture a comprising formaldehyde, water, methylene glycol (MG), polyoxymethylene glycols (MGn>1), methanol, hemiformals (HF), methylal (POMDMEn=1) and polyoxymethylene glycol dimethyl ethers (POMDMEn>1); b) feeding the reaction mixture a into a first distillation column and separati ng into a low boiler fraction b1 and a high boiler fraction b2 comprising formaldehyde, water, methanol, polyoxymethylene glycols, hemiformals and polyoxymethylene glycol dimethyl ethers (POMDMEn>1); c) feeding the high boiler fraction b2 into a second distillation column and separating into a l ow boiler fraction c1 comprising formaldehyde, water, methylene glycol, polyoxymethylene glycols, methanol, hemiformals, di-, tri- and tetraoxymethylene glycol dimethyl ether (POMDMEn=2,3,4) and a high boiler fraction c2; d) feeding the low boiler fraction c1 into a third distillation column and separating into a low boiler fraction d1 and a high boiler fracti on d2 substantially consisting of formaldehyde, water, methylene glycol, polyoxymethylene glycols, tri- and tetraoxymethylene glycol dimethyl ether (POMDMEn=3,4); e) feeding the high boiler fraction d2 into a phase separatio n apparatus and separating into an aqueous phase e1 substantially consisting o f formaldehyde, water, methylene glycol and polyoxymethylene glycols, and an organic phase e2 comprising tri- and tetraoxymethylene glycol dimethyl ether (POMDMEn=3,4); f) feeding the organic phase e2 into a fourth distillation column and separating into a low boiler fraction f1 substantially consisting of formaldehyde, water, methylene glycol and polyoxymethylene glycols, and a high boiler fraction f2 substantially consisting of tri- and tetraoxymethyle ne glycol dimethyl ether (POMDMEn=3,4).

Abstract: The invention relates to an integrated process for preparing trioxane from formaldehyde in which, in a first step, a stream A 1 comprising water and formaldehyde and a recycle stream B 2 consisting substantially of water and formaldehyde are fed to a trioxane synthesis reactor in which the formaldehyde is converted to trioxane to obtain a product stream A 2 comprising trioxane, water and formaldehyde. Stream A 2 and a recycle stream D 1 comprising trioxane, water and formaldehyde are fed to a first distillation column and distilled at a pressure in the range from 0.1 to 2.5 bar to obtain a stream B 1 enriched in trioxane, and the stream B 2 consisting substantially of water and formaldehyde. Stream B 1 is fed to a second distillation column and distilled at a pressure in the range from 0.2 to 17.5 bar to obtain a product stream C 2 consisting substantially of trioxane, and a stream C 1 comprising trioxane, water and formaldehyde. Stream C 1 is fed to a third distillation column and distilled at a pressure in the range from 1 to 10 bar to obtain the recycle stream D 1 comprising trioxane, water and formaldehyde, and a stream D 2 consisting substantially of water.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for obtaining anhydrous or substantially anhydrous formic acid, in which firstly aqueous formic acid is prepared by hydrolysis of methyl formate and is freed from water in the subsequent work-up. The process has the special feature that steam, which is employed for the hydrolysis of methyl formate and for heating a distillation column serving for work-up, is also used as stripping steam for waste-water stripping. The stripped waste water is produced during work-up.
