Abstract: The number and size of free resin particles, which give rise to problems in the manufacture of paper, are determined so that said particles may be bound to the wood fibres by the addition of auxili- aries in order to neutralize them. Following preparation of a paper pulp suspension, the resin particles are separated therefrom, marked with a fluorescent die and isolated. The light signals emit- ted by the individual resin particles after excitation are detected to enable the number and size of the particles to be determined.

Abstract: Finely divided, pulverulent carotinoid or retinoid compositions, in which the carotinoid or retinoid essentially has a particle size of less than 0.5 micron, are prepared by a process wherein a carotinoid or retinoid is dissolved in a volatile, water-miscible, organic solvent at from 50 DEG C. to 200 DEG C., if necessary under superatmospheric pressure, within the space of less than 10 seconds. The carotinoid is immediately precipitated, in a colloidally disperse form, from the molecularly disperse solution by rapidly mixing the latter with an aqueous solution of a swellable colloid at from 0 DEG C. to 50 DEG C., and the resulting dispersion is freed from the solvent and the dispersing medium in a conventional manner.

Abstract: The invention relates to a solid crop protection formulation comprising a) at least one crop protection agent selected from the group consisting of herbicides, pesticides and fungicides, with the proviso that cinidon-ethyl is not included; b) at least one random radical copolymer comprising as polymerized units at least one hydrophilic and at least one hydrophobic monomer; and c) optionally further additives, wherein at least 50% of the dispersed particles of the at least one crop protection agent in said solid crop protection formulation are in X-ray amorphous state. Additionally, the invention relates to processes for preparing said formulations and the use of said formulations in agriculture.

Abstract: Process for producing finely divided, essentially amorphic colorant or active compound preparations by converting a relatively coarsely particulate dispersion or a solution into a colloidal distribution state in water, the colloidal distribution being generated at a temperature above the melting point of the colorant or active compound by adding appropriately hot water (if necessary under pressure) or an aqueous protective colloidal solution, so that an emulsion is formed of a melt in an aqueous medium, which emulsion is immediately spray-dried or is converted into a suspension by cooling.
