Abstract: A curable polyurethane polymer comprises a hydroxyl group containing prepolymer, a compound having a hydroxyl group and/or prim. or sec. amine group and a compound having at least 2 isocyanate groups and/or their salts whereby the ratio of isocyanate group equivalents to isocyanate reactive groups is 0.4:1-0.9:1. A curable polyurethane polymer (I) comprises: (A) 10-60 wt.% of a hydroxyl group containing prepolymer having at least a thermally or photochemically polymerizable alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated double bond (B) 0.1-30 wt.% of a compound having a hydroxyl group and/or prim. or sec. amine group that is reactive towards an isocyanate group and having at least one polar functional group per molecule; (C) 0.1-30 wt.% of a diamine and/or polyamine; (D) 0-10 wt.% of a compound, different to (A), (B), (C) and (E) having at least 2 isocyanate reactive groups and containing hydroxyl and/or prim. and/or sec. amine groups; (E) 0-20 wt.% of a compound having one isocyanate reactive group; (F) 10-65 wt.% of a compound having at least 2 isocyanate groups and/or their salts whereby the ratio of isocyanate group equivalents in (F) to isocyanate reactive groups is (A)-(E) is 0.4:1-0.9:1. Independent claims are included for: (i) a polymer dispersion containing (I); and (ii) a coating agent containing (I).

Abstract: Curable polyurethane polymers (I) and their salts are novel in that the sum of the OH numbers of a component comprising a prepolymer(s) containing hydroxyl groups with ethylenically unsaturated double bond(s) capable of free radical photochemical polymerization, and a component containing isocyanate-reactive hydroxy groups or hydroxy groups and/or amino groups, is 121-300 mg KOH/g. Curable polyurethane polymers (I) and their salts comprise (A) 40-80 wt.% prepolymer(s) containing hydroxyl (OH) groups with alpha , beta -ethylenically unsaturated double bond(s) capable of free radical photochemical polymerization; (B) 0.1-20 wt.% compound(s) containing OH and/or primary or secondary amino group(s) reacting with isocyanate (NCO) groups and also polar functional group(s); (C) 0.1-10 wt.% diamine(s) and/or polyamine(s); (D) 0-20 wt.% other compound(s) with NOTLESS 2 NCO-reactive OH groups or OH and/or primary or secondary amino groups; (E) 0-20 wt.% other compound(s) with an NCO-reactive group; and (F) 10-50 wt.% polyisocyanate(s). The novelty is that the sum of the OH numbers of components (A) and (D) is 121-300 mg KOH/g. Independent claims are also included for (a) (I) dispersions; and (b) the production of (I) in which the polymers are prepared by (1) reacting components (A), (B), (F) and optionally (D) and/or (E) with an NCO polyurethane prepolymer; (2) optionally ionizing the ionogenic polar functional groups by neutralization and/or quaternization; (3) reacting the NCO prepolymer with (C) and optionally (E) to give a product free from NCO groups and optionally dispersing the product in water; and optionally (4) drying the reaction product, preferably by spray drying.

Abstract: Aqueous dispersions of compounds with copolymerisable ethylenically unsaturated groups contain a stabiliser containing at least a piperidin-N-oxyl group tetrasubstituted in 2,2,6,6-position by a 1-6C hydrocarbon group. he stabiliser is most preferably of formula (V). The stabiliser is present in an amount of 0.001-0.5 wt.%. The dispersions contains polyurethane compounds in an amount of 0.005-0.4 mol. ethylenically unsaturated groups per 100 g polyurethane.
