    Abstract: Isobutylene polymers are prepared continuously, in aliphatic C3-C6-hydrocarbons in the presence of soluble cationic polymerization initiators and coinitiators at from -40 to 40.degree.C and under from 0.,01 to 10 bar, and the solvents and monomers vaporized during the polymerization are recycled, by a process in which the liquid stream of the monomer solution, containing 40 - 95, in particular 50 - 85, per cent by weight of the monomers, the liquid streams of the recycle and of the coinitiator solution and the separate stream of the initiator solution are combined in a first zone containing the polymerization zone, and the resulting polymer solution is taken off continuously through a second zone vertically below the first zone. The liquid streams of the monomer solution, the coinitiator solution and the recycle can furthermore be fed into the first zone separately from one another.

    Abstract: Continuous prodn. of homogeneous mixts. of (A) a low viscosity component of 1-1000 Ns/m2 viscosity and (B) a high viscosity component with viscosity 102-104 Ns/m2 higher than (A), with (A) being 70-99 wt. % of the total by passing (B) through a screw extruder with L/D ratio 30-60 (40-50) and adding (A) in up to 4 separate stages, in amounts of 30-60, 80-130, 400-550 and 800-1200 wt. % w.r.t. initial amount of (B) at each stage. Used for prepn. of sealants, adhesives, rubber solns. multi-grade lubricating oils, etc. in which (B) is a polymer e.g. synthetic or natural rubber, polyiso-butylene, polyvinyl ether etc. and (A) is oil bitumen, polyisobutylene polyethylene wax, paraffin wax etc. Homogeneous mixts. free from undsipersed high-viscosity material are obtd. in a continuous process, without laborious multi-stage batch mixing using incremental addns. of (A).

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the continuous production of the tert-butyl ester of an aliphatic C1-C4 carboxylic acid by reacting the carboxylic acid with isobutene in a liquid phase in the presence of an acid catalyst. The reaction is carried out in a reactor divided into several sections. The carboxylic acid, the iso-olefin and the catalyst are introduced into the first section of the reactor, the reaction mixture obtained is removed from the last section of the reactor, and the ester is extracted from said mixture. The reaction temperature in the reactor is controlled in such a way that it ranges from 10 to 40 DEG C and is highest in the first section of the reactor. The inventive method enables tertiary butyl esters of saturated and unsaturated C1-C4 carboxylic acids to be produced economically and in a technically simple and environmentally friendly manner.
