Abstract: Prodn. of mixts. (I) of diphenylmethane diisocyanates (MDI) and polyphenyl polymethylene polyisocyanates (IA) with reduced I2 colour no. involves reacting corresp. mixts. (II) of diphenylmethane diamines (MDA) and polyphenyl polymethylene polyamines (IIA) with COCl2 in the presence of inert organic solvent(s) (III) at elevated temp., sepn. of excess COCl2 and (III) when phosgenation is complete and thermal treatment of the reaction prod. The novelty is that amines (IVA) and/or urea cpds. (IVB) are incorporated in the reaction mixt. after phosgenation. (IVA) are aromatic amines, pref. MDA and/or (IIA); and (IVB) are aliphatic and/or aromatic cpds., pref. urea derivs. of MDI and/or (IA). (IV) are added in amts. of 0.01-2.5% w.r.t. (I) in the reaction mixt. and at the time when the COCl2 content of the mixt. is 0.01-3%. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful in the prodn. of compact or foamed polyisocyanate poly-addn. prods., pref. flexible or (semi-)rigid foam contg. urethane and opt. isocyanurate gps. Addn. of (IV) reduces I2 colour no., e.g. to under 60, without the need to add water. The (I) obtd. contain 30-90, pref. 30-70 (wt.)% MDI isomers and have an NCO content of 31 +/- 2, pref. 31 +/- 1% and viscosity of max. 2000, pref. 40-700 mPa.s at 23 deg.C. (I) give light-coloured foams.

Abstract: Pyridine or methylpyridines or mixtures thereof are recovered from methyl butanedicarboxylate containing reaction mixtures obtained by reaction of methyl pentenoate with carbon monoxide and methanol in the presence of pyridine, methylpyridines or mixtures thereof and also cobalt catalysts at elevated temperatures and under superatmospheric pressure and subsequent treatment with molecular oxygen containing gases in aqueous acetic acid by (a) separating the reaction mixture on the one hand into an aqueous phase containing cobalt acetate, pyridine, methylpyridines or mixtures thereof, acetic acid and methanol and on the other an organic phase containing methyl butanedicarboxylate, by-products, unconverted methyl pentenoate, acetic acid and also pyridine, methylpyridines or mixtures thereof, (b) extracting the organic phase obtained in step (a) with aqueous acetic acid to obtain an aqueous extract containing pyridine or methylpyridines or mixtures thereof as well as acetic acid, (c) combining the aqueous extract obtained in step (b) with the aqueous phase from step (a) and (d) isolating pyridine, methylpyridines or mixtures thereof by distillation from the aqueous solution produced in step (c) and obtaining a solution of cobalt acetate in aqueous acetic acid.

Abstract: Procedimiento para la obtención de metilendi(fenilisocianato) mediante fosgenizado de metilendi(fenilamina), obtenida mediante reacción de anilina con formaldehído en presencia de catalizadores ácidos, disponiéndose anilina, y en caso dado catalizador ácido, en un procedimiento semicontinuo, alimentándose formaldehído, y en caso dado catalizador ácido, a través de un órgano de mezcla en un circuito, en el que se mueven en circuito anilina, en caso dado catalizador ácido, y en caso dado formaldehído ya añadido, y temperándose la mezcla de reacción a una temperatura mayor que 75ºC tras alimentación de al menos un 50 % de la cantidad de formaldehído a alimentar en total, caracterizado porque el fosgenizado se lleva a cabo a temperaturas de 70ºC a 120ºC, y a una presión de 0, 8 a 5 bar, en una o varias etapas.
