    Abstract: Prodn. of 3,4-dihydro-isoquinoline cpds. of formula (I) comprises oxidising 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-isoquinoline cpds. of formula (II) with NaOCl and/or KOCl in the absence of organic solvents. R2, R3 = R' or R"; R' = 1-20C alkyl, up to 20C cycloalkyl or aryl (all opt. substd. by aryl, NO2, CN, halogen, 1-20C alkyl, amino, 1-20 aminoalkyl, 1-20C thioalkyl, 1-20 sulphoalkyl, carboxylate ester, OH, 1-20C alkoxy, polyalkoxy or 1-40C quaternised di- or tri- alkylammonium or carboxyalkyl), H or heterocyclyl; R" = NO2, halo, CN, 1-20C alkoxy, phenoxy, benzyloxy, keto, COOH, 1-20C carboalkoxy, NH2 or mono- or di(1-6C alkyl)amino. Also claimed is a process as above where the prod. is quaternised with R1X to give a 3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium salt of formula (III). R1 = R'; X = oxidn.-stable anion, pref. Cl, Br, sulphate, methylsulphate, sulphonate, p-toluenesulphonate, boron tetrafluoride, phosphorus pentafluoride, phosphate, cyanide or ethylsulphate.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a solid composition substantially comprising between 5 and 98 parts by weight of heterocyclic compounds (I) R -X-L , wherein L stands for groups with a cyclic carbamate, a lactoneoxy or a lactam structure, X means a carbonyl, a double carbonyl or a heterocarbonyl group, and R designates an organic group or a second L group, and/or oxime esters (II), wherein L stands for an oxime group (a) or (b), R , R and Z designating organic groups or bridge members, L stands for the R group, a second L oxime group or a carbon ester group, carbon amide group, phenolate group, vinyloxy group, sulphoneamide group, imidazole group, amidolactam group, cyclic carbamate group, lactoneoxy group or lactam group, and m means 0 or 1. The composition further comprises between 2 and 95 parts by weight of inert porous carrier materials with an internal area of between 10 and 500 m /g. The solid composition described is suitable as a stable bleach-activator component in washing, bleaching and cleaning agents.

    Abstract: Prepn. of 2-(benzylidene or naphthylidene) acylacetic or malonic acid esters or amides of formula Ar-CH=C(COR )(COR ) (I) involves reacting an aromatic aldehyde of formula ArCHO (II) with an active methylene cpd. of formula CH2(COR )(COR ) (III). In the formulae, Ar = phenyl or naphthyl (both opt. substd. by 1-3 or 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy and OH); R = 1-8C alkoxy, phenoxy, benzyloxy or -NR R ; R ,R = H or 1-6C alkyl; R = 1-4C alkyl, phenyl, benzyl or as R . The novelty is that the reaction mixt., at the end of the reaction, is washed with aq. alkali metal (hydrogen) sulphite soln. to remove residual, unconverted (II). Pref. the organic solvent in the organic phase obtd. after the (bi)sulphite wash is distilled off to give a technical prod. contg. (I). The use of this technical prod. as brightener is claimed. Preferably, Ar = phenyl (opt. substd. by 1 or 2 of Me, Et, OMe and OEt); R = 1-8C alkoxy; R = 1-4C alkyl or 1-6C alkoxy. Esp. Ar = Ph, R = OMe or OEt, and R = Me, OMe or OEt.
