Abstract: In a process for producing open-celled rigid foams by reacting a) polyisocyanates with b) compounds containing hydrogen atoms which are reactive toward isocyanates, in the presence of c) water, d) if desired, organic compounds acting as physical blowing agents, e) catalysts, auxiliaries and/or additives, the compounds containing reactive hydrogen atoms used are substances having the structure I: is 0-1 q is 0-15 r is 0-1 s is 0-15 t is 0-1 u is 0-10 v is 0-15 x is 1-5 y is 1-4 or mixtures of 1-3 where r+n NOTEQUAL 0 z is 0-3 zi is 0.1-3 R1 is an aliphatic structure without OH groups based on the structure of polyhydric alcohols, preferably ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, 1,2-propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol, 1,4-butanediol, 1,6-hexanediol, neopentyl glycol, 1,3-butanediol, trimethylolpropane, trimethylolethane, glycerol, pentaerythritol, where these substances can also be used in the esterification as any mixture among one another and R1 can therefore also be a mixture of the corresponding structures, R2 is the radical of a polycarboxylic acid without COOH groups, eg. adipic acid, terephthalic acid, o-phthalic acid, R3 is an alcohol radical like R1.

Abstract: Storage-stable emulsion, used in the manufacture of fine celled hard foamed materials, contains a polyester alcohol propellant of specified formula as emulsifier. Emulsion contains: (a) compounds containing hydrogen atoms reactive towards isocyanates; (b) a polyester alcohol propellant of formula (I) as emulsifier; and (c) usual polyurethane catalysts, auxiliary aids and/or additives. (b) is emulsified in components (b) and (c). m = 0-15; n = 0-1; o = 0-15; p = 0-1; q = 0-15; r = 0-1; s = 0-15; t = 0-1; u = 0-10; v = 0-15; x = 1-5; y = 1-4 or mixtures between 1-3 with r + n is not 0; R1 = aliphatic structure based on the structure of multivalent alcohols, preferably ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol 1,2-propylene glycol, and dipropylene glycol; 1,4-butane diol, 1,6-hexane diol, neopentyl glycol, 1,3-butane diol, trimethylol propane, trimethylol ethane, glycerin, pentaerythrite; R2 = polycarboxylic acid without COOH groups, e.g. adipic acid, terephthalic acid, or o-phthalic acid; and R3 = alcohol as in R1.

Abstract: The invention relates to a xerogel comprising: 30 to 90 wt.% of a monomer component (a1) of at least one polyfunctional isocyanate and from10 to 70 w t.% of a monomer component (a2) of at least one polyfunctional aromatic amin e, of which at least one is selected from 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane, 2,4'- diaminodiphenylmethane, 2,2'-diaminodiphenylmethane and oligomeric diaminodi phenylmethane, wherein the sum of the wt.% of the monomer components (a1) an d (a2) is 100 wt.% and the monomer components are present in the xerogel in the polymeric form and the volume-weighted mean pore diameter of the xerogel is a maximum of 5 .mu.m. The invention further relates to a method for prod uction of xerogels, the xerogels obtained thus and the use of said xerogels as insulation and in vacuum insulation panels.

Abstract: A mixture of polyether-alcohols with (b1) a functionality of more than 4 and an OH number (OHN) of more than 450 mg KOH/g, (b2) a functionality of 3-4 and an OHN of more than 350 and (b3) a functionality of 3-4 and an OHN of 100-200 is used as the polyol component in a method for the production of rigid, open-cell polyurethane foam. A method for the production of rigid, open-cell polyurethane foam by reacting (a) polyisocyanates with (b) compounds containing at least 2 isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms in presence of (c) catalysts and (d) blowing agents, in which component (b) comprises a mixture of (b1) polyether-alcohol(s) with a functionality of more than 4 and an OH number of more than 450 mg KOH/g, obtained by reacting H-functional starters with a functionality of at least 5 and optionally H-functional starters with a functionality of not more than 3 with alkylene oxides, (b2) polyether-alcohol(s) with a functionality of 3-4 and an OH number of more than 350, obtained by reacting H-functional starters with alkylene oxides and (b3) polyether-alcohol(s) with a functionality of 3-4 and an OH number of 100-200, obtained as for (b2). Independent claims are also included for (1) rigid, open-cell polyurethane foam obtained by this method (2) vacuum insulation elements with this foam as core material .

Abstract: The production of rigid polyurethane (PUR) foam with a low bulk density (I) comprises reacting (a) polyisocyanates and/or modified polyisocyanates with (b) high-mol. wt. compound(s) with at least two reactive hydrogens and optionally (c) low-mol. wt. chain-extenders and/or crosslinkers in presence of (d) blowing agents, (e) catalysts and optionally (f) other additives etc. Component (d) consists of a mixture of (d-1) cyclopentane, (d-2) at least one 3-4C alkane and/or alkene which forms a homogeneous mixture with cyclopentane and (d-3) the carbon dioxide from the reaction of water and isocyanate. Component (b) comprises aromatic nitrogen-containing polyethers.

Abstract: A process for the production of rigid polyurethane foam with improved thermodimensional stability and reduced thermal conductivity comprises reacting (a) polyisocyanates with (b) compounds with isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms in presence of (c) water and optionally (d) physical blowing agents and (e) catalysts and other additives etc. 60-100 wt% of component (b) consists of a polyol mixture containing (b1) a polyol obtained by addition of ethylene oxide (EO) and/or propylene oxide (PO) to a hexitol or hexitol mixture and (b2) a polyol obtained by addition of EO and/or PO to one or more aromatic amines, such that the total hexitol content and the total amine content of the polyol mixture is 15-30 wt% and 1-10 wt% respectively.
