    Abstract: Thixotropic agent (I), esp. for storage-stable PU reactive systems, is mfd. by reaction of uretedione gp.-contg. polyisocyanates (II) with polyfunctional carboxylic acids with at least one COOH gp. and OH gps. as required (III), pref. in a reactive reaction medium (IV). Pref. (IV) is a higher-mol. polyol, pref. a polyetherpolyol with sec. OH gps. (III) is a 2-20C aliphatic acid, pref. lactic , ricinoleic, malic, tartaric, citric, dimethylol-propionic or adipic acid. Thixotropically-modified (IV) are claimed, esp. above pref. type with mol.wt. 400-10,000. PU systems based on polyols, retarded polyisocyanates and chain-extenders, etc. as required, are made thixotropic using (I), at least 50% of the polyol component being thixotropic (IV).

    Abstract: A process for the production of optionally foamed moldings having a compact surface by the reaction in closed molds of a mixture of (a) organic polyisocyanates, (b) compounds containing isocyanate-reactive groups and having a molecular weight of 62 to about 10,000 and (c) mold release agents based on salts of (i) saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic carboxylic acids or carboxylic acid mixtures containing (on a statistical average) at least 8 carbon atoms per molecule and (ii) tertiary amines, characterized in that the release agents (c) used are salts in which the amine component (ii) is based on tertiary monoamines or mixtures of tertiary monoamines corresponding to the following formula in which R1 represents a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing at least 12 carbon atoms and R2 and R3 may be the same or different and represent saturated or unsaturated, preferably saturated, aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals containing from 1 to 18, preferably from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, more preferably, methyl groups and/or C2-C40 hydroxyalkyl radicals optionally containing ether bridges.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the production of solid polyamines stabilized by a polyadduct covering and showing retarded reactivity comprising reacting (1) one or more solid organic polyamines in particulate form, said polyamines containing at least two primary and/or secondary amino groups and having melting points above 50 DEG C., and (2) from 0.1 to 25 equivalent % of isocyanate per amine equivalent of a water insoluble, difunctional and/or higher functional polyisocyanate, said reaction being conducted at a temperature below the melting point of said solid polyamine, and being conducted in the presence of (3) a liquid medium selected from the group consisting of (a) organic compounds containing two or more hydroxy groups and having molecular weights of from 62 to 10,000, (b) plasticizers, (c) water, and (d) mixtures thereof to form a suspension of polyadduct-covered stabilized polyamines in the liquid medium.

    Abstract: This invention relates to the production of polymer-coated, finely divided polyisocyanates by mixing (A) solid, finely divided polyisocyanates (preferably dimeric diisocyanates or urea diisocyanates) with (B) polyisocyanates differing in composition from those mentioned under (A) (preferably (cyclo) aliphatic polyisocyanates, such as biuretized diisocyanates or trimers or NCO-prepolymers), in quantities of from 0.05 to 50 parts by weight, and preferably in quantities of from 0.2 to 25 parts by weight, of (B) per 100 parts by weight of (A). The solid polyisocyanate particles surface-modified by covering with polyisocyanates (B) and then reacted with (D) isocyanate-reactive compounds containing reactive hydrogen atoms or with compounds free from active hydrogen atoms which form polymers with isocyanates in sub-equivalent to substantially equivalent quantities (preferably 0.5 to 1.0 equivalent per NCO-equivalent), in the presence of (C) inert, weakly polar organic solvents, (for example aliphatic hydrocarbons or relatively long chain dialkyl ethers), plasticizers, polyols or aromatic polyamines. A polymer coating is formed by the reaction of (B) and (D) around the solid polyisocyanate cores (A). The present invention also relates to the polyisocyanate particles covered with polyisocyanates (B) on the surface of the solid polyisocyanates (A) and, in particular, to the foreign-polymer coated, finely particulate polyisocyanates of retarded reactivity obtained by reaction with (D). The present invention also relates to the use of the polyisocyanate-covered and, more particularly, polymer-coated polyisocyanates, optionally in suspension in polyols and/or plasticizers, for the production of polyurethanes, more particularly in one-component polyurethane reactive systems having a long shelf life and a high thickening point.
