Abstract: The method involves causing two light waves from a coherent light source and focused on an illuminated point in the object (1) from opposite directions (2,3) to interfere to form an illumination pattern. At least two additional coherent light waves are superimposed to minimize the side maxima of the illumination pattern. Independent claims are also included for the following: a device for illuminating a transparent object, especially for double confocal raster microscopy.
