Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify circuit constitution by connecting terminal electrodes in pairs to an electrode wire through a resistor, and emitting light from phosphor by ultraviolet radiation generated by discharge of rare gas. CONSTITUTION:Two terminal electrodes 7 are connected in common as a pair in the scanning direction, and a common connecting part is connected to an anode bus bar 4 through a resistor 8a. Since this resistor 8a is connected to a far side anode bus bar 4, when a length is made long, resistance can be increased. In this way, when constitution is set in such a way that the terminal electrodes 7 are connected to the anode bus bar 4 by holding a single resistor 8a in common in pairs by the terminal electrodes 7 adjacent to each other in the scanning direction, the area possessed by the resistor 8a is reduced, and high density is realized. When being arranged in this way, since interlaced scanning becomes possible, phosphor can emit light by ultraviolet radiation generated by discharge of rare gas by a simple circuit.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make the shortest distance between both electrodes shorter and to reduce the discharge starting voltage by placing a partition wall between a cathode and an anode provided to a back face plate and a front face plate so as to hold the both electrodes crossing square, and specifying the heights of the partition wall and the anode. CONSTITUTION:A cathode 3 and an anode 4 are formed on a back face plate 1 and a front face plate 2 separately, and the back face plate 1 and the front face plate 2 are faced each other so as to make the cathode 3 and the anode 4 cross square placing a partition wall 5 between them. A rare gas is sealed between the back face plate 1 and the front face plate 2, a discharge cell 6 is formed at the crossing point of the cathode 3 and the anode 4, and by applying a voltage between the both electrodes, the cell 6 emits the light. And the shortest distance between the cathode 3 and the anode 4 is made more than 10% and less than 90% of the interval between the back face plate 1 and the front face plate 2. Consequently, the shortest distance between the cathode and the anode is made shorter, the intensity of the electric field near the cathode is increased, and the discharge starting voltage is reduced. As a result, the device can get a long service life and a low cost.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a gaseous discharge type display device which can afford sufficient luminance and reliability even in the case of multiple color display (coloring). CONSTITUTION:A front face glass plate 2 provided with a positive electrode body 5 is retained with a fixed interval apart from a rear face glass plate 3 provided with a negative electrode body 6 through an insulating body 4, while these glass plates 2, 3 are retained opposingly to each other so that the positive electrode body 5 may cross nearly orthogonally the negative electrode body 6. A display cell 9 is formed at an intersection point thereof, and an electric discharge medium gas 11 comprising mainly a helium gas in which the concentration of a helium-3 isotope ( He) is higher than that in a natural helium gas is sealed in the display cell 9 while a phosphor film 10 is formed in an inner wall surrounding the display cell 9. Consequently, discharge voltage is lowered, power comsumption of a driving IC is decreased and reliability is enhanced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To offer a gas discharge type display device which has such superior characteristics that sufficient picture element density for OA is obtained and light emission brightness is high while solving such a problem that practical light emission brightness is not obtained because of an insufficient aperture ratio when a small cell pitch required for OA is employed for a DC-PDP which is drive by a pulse memory system. CONSTITUTION:A trigger electrode 2 and a dielectric layer 3 are formed on a back plate 1 by uniform coating. Further, a cathode group 11 consisting of cathodes K1, K2, K3... is installed on the dielectric layer 3 and a discharging space is partitioned with a barrier group 13 consisting of partition walls W1, W2, W3... intersecting orthogonally with the cathode group 11. Further, a glass plate 4 where an anode group 12 is formed of anodes A1, A2, A3... is arranged thereupon by adhering airtightly so that the anode group 12 and cathode group 11 face each other. The cathodes are scanned not in sequence, by at intervals of a certain number of cathodes.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to find out a lamp tends to generate irregular flicker early in the lifetime by monitoring the generation of the discontinuance of the anode oscillation applying a DC power voltage superposed with a triangular wave voltage having a rise time longer than its fall time and a specified amplitude and frequency so as to distinguish irregular flicker of light output. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent lamp is started at the minimum value of the frequency [f]of a signal wave 2 and of the amplitude Va of a superposed triangular wave voltage, and the frequency [f] is increased up to the maximum value continuously or discretely. During this time period, the generation of the anode oscillation is monitored with an oscilloscope 5, and if the anode oscillation is discontinued at a frequency the corresponding frequency or the range of the frequency is recorded. Then the amplitude Va is increased by a small increment and the frequency [f] is changed from the minimum value to the maximum value similarly to monitor the generation of the anode oscillation. The frequency [f] and the amplitude Va of the said triangular wave are made to be 20Hz-1 kHz and 20-80V respectively. Thereby fluorescent lamps tends to generate the irregular flicker can be found out easily in the lifetime.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a screen and to achieve long life by forming a sealed gas primarily of He, Ne and Xe, and by using a blended gas in which the partial pressure of each gas exceeds 5% in relation to the whole sealed gas. CONSTITUTION:When a blended gas (A) (He 0%, Ne 85%, Xe 15%) is used as a sealed gas in a gas discharge type display device, discharging is expanded to only the two thirds of a discharge cell 9 along a negative electrode 2 with an opening 8a as a center. When a blended gas B (He 40%, Ne 40%, Xe 20%) is used as the sealed gas, the expansion 11 of discharging is throughout the entire surface of the cell 9. When a blended gas C (He 95%, Ne 0%, Xe 5%) is used as the sealed gas, the expansion 11 of discharging is the same as the case where the blended gas B is used, and is almost throughout the entire surface of the discharge cell 9. When the blended gas B or C is used, the screen quality is improved.

CONSTITUTION:On a front face glass 1 and on a rear face glass 3, anode wires 2 in group and cathode wires 4 in group are laid in parallel, respectively; The front face glass 1 and the rear face glass 3 are held together in opposite relation by partitioning walls 5 so that the anode wires 2 and the cathode wires 4 intersect mutually approximately at right angles. And thus, a discharge cell 6 is formed. In this gas discharge display device, at least either of the anode wires 2 and the cathode wires 4 are embedded in grooves 3a formed on the rear face glass.
