    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve satisfactory processability of giving precise sphericity in addition to wear resistance, corrosion resistance and mechanical strength, surface smoothness in the case of a product and writing characteristics by specifying surface roughness of a ceramic ball for a ballpoint pen. SOLUTION: The ceramic ball for a ballpoint pen is formed on its surface to have a width of 0.5μm or more, a depth of 0.2μm or more, a length of 10μm or more without a polishing damage within a region of 100μm , a centerline mean roughness of 4.5 to 10nm and maximum and minimum roughnesses of 50 to 100nm. On the surface of the ball, in an arbitrary range of 2,500m , polishing damages of a width of 0.5μm or more, a depth of 0.2μm or more and a length of 10μm or more are two or less. As the material of the ceramics adapted to the ball for the pen, suitable hardness and strength are required, and hence any of ceramics of alumina, silicon nitride and composite ceramic sintered material is suitable.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To achieve higher accuracy, a smaller size and an inexpensive production as well as high stability of outputs. CONSTITUTION:A hunmidity sensor contains an alkali metal ion transmitting solid electrolyte 1, a detection electrode 2 formed in contact with one 1a of the alkali metal ion transmitting solid electrolyte 1, an oxygen ion transmitting solid electrolyte 3 arranged by joining one end 3a of the alkali metal ion transmitting solid electrolyte 1 to the other end 1b thereof and a reference electrode 4 formed in contact with the other end 3b of the oxygen ion transmitting solid electrolyte 3. The alkali metal ion transmitting solid electrolyte 1 detects a change in moisture and the oxygen ion transmitting solid electrolyte 3 does not detect the change in the moisure and hence, the combination of the both enables measurement of the moisture. This achieves high stability of outputs from a sensor and also does a higher accuracy, a smaller size and inexpensive production.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abrasive which, with respect to abrasion of a glass stock and a semiconductor device, contains no contaminants, provides an im proved abrasion speed as compared to a silica abrasive, while maintaining a surface processed state equal to that obtained using a silica abrasive, shows reduced adhesion of a abrasive grains on the abraded surface and can contribute to the improvement of productivity, by using a ceric oxide powder having spe cific properties. SOLUTION: This abrasive comprises a cerium oxide powder in which a number average particle diameter of a primary particle is 0.01-0.5 μm and the half-value width 2θ( deg.) of an angle 28.6 deg. (111 face) of diffraction in X-ray diffraction is 0.7-0.15 deg.. In order to prepare a slurry of the abrasive using the cerium oxide as an abrasive grain, the cerium oxide is preperably contained 0.5-30 wt.%, preferably 1-10 wt.% to a whole amount of the abradant. A stock powder of the cerium oxide can be prepared by various methods. In a hydrothermal method, a base such as ammonia water or the like is added to an aqueous solution of a cerium salt to neutralize the solution and a precipitation is deposited, followed by heating the resulting product in a pressure vessel to crystallize the product.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an accurate and stable measured result enhanced in reliability by correcting the drift of the electromotive force generated in a carbon dioxide sensor during the continuous measurement of gas to be inspected. CONSTITUTION:A drift correcting circuit 14 correcting the drift of the electromotive force generated in a carbon dioxide sensor 10 during the measurement of gas to be inspected containing carbon dioxide is provided. By adjusting a variable resistor R so that a measuring current I3 satisfies I3=EXR4/R3R5, even when the concn. of carbon dioxide in the gas to be inspected changes and the generated electromotive force E of the sensor 10 changes in proportion thereto, the sensor is operated so that the current I1 flowing to a series resistor R1 always holds a condition I1=0 for preventing the accumulation of a sodium ion.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain reliable safety system for combustion to minimize malfunction by a method wherein a thermocouple is connected in series with the driving circuit of a fuel supply valve. CONSTITUTION:When incomplete combustion is occurred, the oxygen partial pressure of the waste gas in contact with the inner partition wall 9 is varied to change the electromotive force produced across the porous electrodes 10, 11. The electromotive force of the sensor 8 enters into a controller 14 by passing through the lead wires 12, 13. The controller 14 develops the voltage across the primary coil 15 of a transformer 5 when the electromotive force generated in sensor 8 exceeds the set value. The voltage developed across the primary coil 15 of the transformer 5 acts to cancel the electromotive force of the thermocouple 7, causing to release the solenoid valve 3 from excitation to stop fuel supply to the burner 1 by closing the solenoid valve 3.
