Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a molded item with excellent physical properties and a low anisotropy by sequentially and continuously feeding a liq.-crystalline polyester resin comprising specific four kinds of structural units and specific glass fibers into an extruder, melt mixing them, and molding the resulting compsn. CONSTITUTION: The compsn. is prepd. by filling a liq.-crystalline polyester resin comprising structural units represented by formulas I, II, III, and IV (wherein R1 and R2 are each a group of formula V or V1, etc.) with glass fibers having an average diameter of 3-15μm, an number average length of 0.12-0.25mm, and a wt. average length of 0.25-0.6mm. Pref., structural unit I is derived from p-hydroxybenzoic acid; structural unit II, from dihydroxybiphenyl; structural unit III, from 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene; and structural unit IV, from terephthalic acid. Pref., the molar ratio of the sum of structural units I and II to structural unit III is (60:40)-(95:5). The resin and the glass fibers are melt mixed with a twin-screw extruder and are fed sequentially and continuously in the oder of the resin and the glass fibers.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve transparency, gas barrier properties and impact resistance of parts of stationery made or a resin of which injection molding is made easy, by preparing a polyester copolymer containing two or more kinds of either one of, or both of, diol components or dicarboxylic acid components. CONSTITUTION:A polyester copolymer is prepared, which contains two or more kinds of either one of, or both of, diol components or dicarboxylic acid components. As the diol components, an ethylen glycol residue and a cyclohexanedimethanol residue are particularly preferable. On the other hand, as the dicarboxylic acid components, a terephtalic acid residue is particularly preferable. When two kinds of the ethylene glycol residue and the cyclohexanedimethanol residue are selected, a molar ratio of 25 to 75 of the former to 75 to 25 of the latter is particularly preferable. In utilizing the characteristic of the polyester copolymer contained in parts of stationery as application of the same, it is preferable to use it for parts of writing utensils, particularly for caps of writing utensils for liquid-base ink.

CONSTITUTION:A bicycle wheel is manufactured by injection-molding a thermoplastic resin composition containing a fluorescent whitening agent in one kind or more of thermoplastic resin selected out of polyamide resin, polyester resin, polystyrene group resin, polycarbonate resin and polyolefine group resin. With the uniform dispersion of the fluorescent whitening agent, every part of the wheel shines brightly being irradiated by the headlight of an automobile at night. A driver can thereby confirm the position to improve safety.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the molded article excellent in mechanical property and surface appearance by roughening the surface of a molded article consisting of a liq.-crystal polyester shown by the specified formula and an inorg. filler with an acidic soln. and an alkaline soln. and metallizing the surface by plating. CONSTITUTION:One hundred pts.wt. of a liq.-crystal polyester shown by the formula (k/1/m/n=80/7.5/12.5/20) is mixed with one or >=2 kinds of inorg. fillers (magnesium oxide, barium sulfate, zinc phosphate, calcium silicate, etc.) selected from a group consisting of the oxide, sulfate, phosphate, silicate, etc., of group IIa or IIb elements to form the molded article of the liq.-crystal polymer resin composition. The molded article is successively treated with an acidic soln. (sulfuric acid) and an alkaline soln. (potassium hydroxide, etc.) to roughen its surface and then chemically plate it. Consequently, a liq.-crystal polymer resin molded article with the surface metallized excellent in plating film adhesive strength and plating thermal cycle is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition, excellent in solder heat resistance and useful as electrical and electronic parts, etc., by including a specific liquid crystal polyester, a filter, an organic bromine compound and sodium antimonate in a specific proportion. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is obtained by including (B) 0-200 pts.wt. filler such as glass fiber, (C) 0.5-60 pts.wt. organic bromine compound such as polybrominated styrene, having 1X10 to 30X10 weight-average molecular weight and expressed by formula VII and (D) 0.1-30 pts.wt. sodium antimonate in (A) 100 pts.wt. liquid crystal polyester composed of structural units expressed by formulas I to IV (R1 is formula V, etc.; R2 is formula VI, etc.) at (75/25) to (95/5) molar ratio of the structural units expressed by formulas (I/II). The amount of the aforementioned structural units expressed by formulas I and II is 60-90mol% based on the structural units expressed by formulas I to III and the amount of the structural units expressed by formula III is 40-5mol% based on the structural units expressed by formulas I to III.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a liq. crystal polyester resin compsn. with small mechanical anisotropy by compounding a liq. crystal polyester resin forming a specified anisotropic molten phase with a specified silane-contg. compd. CONSTITUTION:A liq. crystal polyester resin compsn. prepd. by compounding 100 pts.wt. liq. crystal polyester resin (A) which consists of the repeating units of formulas I, II and IV or I, II, III and IV and forms an anisotropic molten phase, 0-200 pts.wt. filler (B) and 0.01-20 pts.wt. silane-contg. compd. of formula V. In the formulas, R1 is a group of formula VI, etc., and R2 is a group of formula VII, etc. In addition, the structural unit of formula IV is equimolar with the structural unit of formulas (II+III). Examples of the filler induce glass fibers, ceramic fibers, metal fibers, carbon fiber, clay and titanium oxide. As the compsn. exhibits small mechanical anisotropy, it can be used for various purposes where dimensional accuracy is required, such as electric and electronic parts.

CONSTITUTION:With (A) 100 pts. wt. melt-moldable liquid crystalline polyester resin composed of structural units represented by formulae I-IV [R1 is formulae V, VI, etc.; R2 is formulae V, VI, VII, etc.; X is H or Cl] and satisfying relations such that the structural unit I occupies 40-90mol% based on the total amount of structural units of the formulae I-III and that the molar ratio of (structural unit II/III) is (9/1)-(1/9), (B) 5-200 pts.wt., preferably 10-100 pts.wt. glass fiber having 3-9mum average fiber diameter and 30-10 mum fiber length is blended.
