Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester fiber, excellent in flame resistance without deteriorating mechanical characteristics of a polyester and without causing melt dripping at the time of burning and useful for a curtain, etc., by including a specific organophosphorus compound and a polyphenylene ether. SOLUTION: This polyester fiber comprises (A) preferably 0.1-2.0wt.% (expressed in terms of phosphorus content) organophosphorus compound represented by the formula (R and R are each a monovalent aromatic; R is a bivalent aromatic) and (B) preferably 0.5-20wt.% polyphenylene ether such as poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene)ether.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition causing no melt dripping without generating toxic gas when burned, and capable of giving highly flame-resistant fiber useful for clothing, carpets, curtains, automotive seats, etc., by incorporating a polyester with each specific silicone oil and organophosphorus compound. SOLUTION: This resin composition is obtained by incorporating (A) a polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate or polybutylene terephthalate with (B) a silicone oil bearing functional groups reactive With the polyester in such an amount as to be 0.3-50mol/t in level of the functional groups based on the polyester and (C) an organophosphorus compound of the formula (R and R are each a monovalent aromatic group; R is a divalent aromatic group) in such an amount as to be 0.1-3.0wt.% in terms of phosphorus content. This resin composition retains the mechanical properties of the original polyester, being also good in heat settability and heat resistance.

SOLUTION: This method for producing a polyester comprises subjecting an aromatic dicarboxylic acid consisting mainly of terephthalic acid or its ester-forming derivative to esterification reaction or ester interchange reaction with a diol consisting mainly of propylene glycol, then subjecting the reaction product to polycondensation to produce the polyester of which the repeating unit consists mainly of propylene terephthalate, wherein a titanium compound is used as a catalyst for the esterification reaction, the ester interchange reaction and/or the polycondensation reaction, and further at least one kind of alkaline compound selected from the group consisting of nitrogen-containing compounds, sodium hydroxide, and potassium hydroxide is added to the reaction mixture.

SOLUTION: A method for producing modified polyester fiber having a birefringence of >=0.120 is to perform at a spinning speed of >=2,500 m/min the fiber spinning of a modified polyester composition comprising a phosphorus compound represented by general formula (1) or (2) in an amount expressed in terms of phosphorus atom of 50-1,000 ppm and then to draw the fiber filament at a drawing speed of >=6,000 m/min without once winding it.

The production method of the polyesters is characterized by obtaining the high polymer in a shorter period in which the molar feed ratio R1 of the diol to the dicarboxylic acid (diol/dicarboxylic acid) to be fed to this reaction is made to be 1.10 or below and a catalyst for esterification is also added to the reaction system at an arbitrary time until the initiation of polycondensation when above esterification is carried out under higher pressure than ordinary.
