Abstract: The hydrogenation of esters of benzene-dicarboxylic acids is carried out on supported catalysts containing a Sub-Group VIIII metal on a macroporous support. A process for the hydrogenation of benzene-dicarboxylic acid ester(s) with hydrogen in presence of a supported catalyst containing Sub-Group VIII metal(s) on a macroporous support. If the ester is dimethyl terephthalate, this excludes hydrogenation on a catalyst containing ruthenium, with or without Sub-Group I, VII or VIII metal(s), on a support with an average pore diameter (APD) of at least 50 nm and a BET surface of not more than 30 m /g, with an active metal content of 0.01-30 wt.% and a ratio of (active metal surface):(support surface) of less than 0.05, and/or on a catalyst containing 0.01-30 wt.% active metal(s) as above on a support in which 10-50 vol.% of the pores consist of macropores with a diameter of 50-10,000 nm and 50-90 vol.% consist of mesopores with a diameter of 2-50 nm.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing 1,6-hexanediol and 6hydroxycaproic acid or their esters by the catalytic hydrogenation of adipic acid, adipic acid monoesters or adipic acid diesters or educt flows containing adipic acid or its esters as essential constituents. The bottom product obtained when the hydrogenation discharge is distilled after the hexanediol and the hydroxycaproic acid or its esters have been separated off is reintroduced into the hydrogenation process, said bottom product essentially containing oligomeric esters of the 6-hydroxycaproic acid. The resulting mixture of the educt and the return flow is reacted at temperatures of 100 to 300 ~C and at pressures of 10 to 300 bar in the liquid phase and with a molar ratio of carboxyl groups to be hydrogenated to hydrogen in the reactor of 1:5 to 1:100, on hydrogenating catalysts.

Abstract: Disclosed is a biodiesel fuel mixture having a cetane number of> 40, comprising a) from 5 to 90% by weight of biodiesel, b) from 0 to 94% by weight of diesel oil of fossil origin, c) from 1 to 20% by weight of a polyoxyalkylene dialkyl ether of the formula RO(CH2O)nR, in which R is an alkyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms and n is from 2 to 10, and d) from 0 to 5% by weight of further additives. Also disclosed is the use of polyoxymethylene dialkyl ethers as defined above as an additive in biodiesel fuel mixtures with at least 1% by weight of biodiesel for increasing the cetane number.
