    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain more effective use of resources of a radio communication system by operating a radio unit in a macro diversity mode and on the basis of an operation category of the radio unit related to the mobility of the radio unit. SOLUTION: In a fixed operation category, a radio unit 40 can be firmly fixed the directly antenna of which has the considerably large gain and helps receiving. As the position of the antenna is already known, the macro diversity/ handoff mode, i.e., the operation of the unit 40 can be established and set in an installation/high frequency optimization mode by adjusting the position or direction of the antenna. Thus, in a limited category, the unit 40 can operate in a macro diversity mode, i.e., an operation mode different from the mode that is used for a fixed radio unit.

When the PLR is larger than a first threshold, the power control system increases the transmission power of the wireless unit 12.
