Abstract: Fuel cell comprises a cathode, and anode and an electrolyte. The cathode is made from a material of the formula: (Sr1-xCax)1-yAyMn1-zBzO3-d (where A = Ba, Pb, Na, K, Y or lanthanide; B = Mg, Al, Ga, In, Sn or group IVb, Vb or VIb element; x = 0.2-0.8; y = 0-0.4; z = 0 to 1; and d = a value which takes into account the electro-neutrality principle). Preferred Features: The electrolyte is made from tetragonal zirconia polycrystals, scandium doped cubic stabilized zirconium oxide, lanthanum-strontium-gallium-magnesium oxide having a perovskite structure, gadolinium oxide doped cerium oxide, BiCuVOx or BiErOx. The anode is made from metallic or oxide ion conducting materials or a mixed-conducting material having catalytically active components.
