    Abstract: A process for dressing leather by layerwise application to the leather of 2 to 6 coats of an aq. compsn. comprising (by wt., as solids) 2-15% of one or more polymeric binders, 2-10% casein, 2-15% of a crosslinking agent and a remainder to 100% water, to give a total amt. of 10-100g solids/m2 of the leather surface, drying at 20-80 deg.C and fixing the finish by a 1- to 3 times heat treatment at 150-220 deg.C with a total contact time of 0.1-5 sec.

    Abstract: A process for dressing leather or synthetic leather replacement material by applying a grounding based on aqueous acrylic resin dispersions, intermediate drying and subsequent coating (seasoning) of the leather with an aqueous styrene/acrylate dispersion, characterised in that in the grounding a dispersion is used which contains at least one copolymer a) which - based on the copolymer - contains 30 to 85% by weight of a C2- to C8-alkyl ester of (meth)acrylic acid, 1 to 8% by weight of at least one monomer containing carboxyl groups and 7 to 70% by weight of at least one other monomer which can be copolymerised with the above-mentioned monomers, in copolymerised form, and at least one copolymer b) - which based on the copolymer - contains 50 to 95% by weight of vinylidene chloride, 10 to 40% by weight of a C2- to C4-alkyl ester of (meth)acrylic acid and 1 to 5% by weight of a comonomer which carries at least one group capable of covalent crosslinking of the copolymer as comonomer, in a copolymerised form, in a ratio a:b such as 2 to 5: , in codispersed form, and in that in the coating a dispersion containing divalent metal ions is used which contains at least one copolymer c) in codispersed form, which - based on the copolymer - contains 20 to 40% by weight of styrene, 50 to 75% by weight of a C1- to C6-alkyl ester of (meth)acrylic acid, 1 to 10% by weight of (meth)acrylic acid and 1 to 5% by weight of a monomer which carries a group capable of covalent crosslinking of the copolymer, in copolymerised form.

    Abstract: A description is given of a process for preparing methyl formate by reacting excess methanol with carbon monoxide under superatmospheric pressure and at elevated temperature in the presence of alkali metal methoxide or alkaline earth metal methoxide as catalyst in a pressure-rated reactor, in which the use of at least two reactor elements, preferably operated in countercurrent, at about 100° C. and a pressure of about 100 bar in combination with a solids-free desalting of the reaction product makes possible very economical, largely trouble-free production of methyl formate in any desired quality and with a very good production capacity. Furthermore, the process for solids-free desalting and apparatuses for carrying out this process are described.
