    Abstract: N-alkylformamides of formula: ZCH2NY2-nHn (where, n = 0 or 1; Z = polyalkyl having no average molecular wt. of 150-40000; y = group of formula -(AlkNR1)mCOH (IIa); Alk = alkylene; R1 = H, (cyclo)alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, aryl, arylalkyl, or heteroaryl, or group of formula COH (III); in (III), Alk and/or R1 can be substituted by further alkyls carrying hydroxy or amino groups; m = 0-10; when n = 0, one Y = group of formula (IIa) and the other Y = Z-CH2 (where both Z's are same of different); when n = 0, one Y = group of formula (III) and the other Y = group of formula -AlkNR1)mAlkNR2R3 (IIb); R2 and R3 = (cyclo)alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aminoalkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, aryl, arylalkyl, heteroaryl or together with the N-atom form a heterocyclic ring, where R2 and/or R3 can be substituted by further alkyls carrying further hydroxy or amino groups). Production of the N-alkylformamides is also claimed. Further claimed is a lubricant composition containing 1-15 wt.% of compound (I). Also claimed is a fuel composition containing compound (I).

    Abstract: The invention concerns the use as corrosion-inhibitors of quaternized imidazoles (I), wherein R and R , independently of each other, designate saturated or unsaturated C1-C12 hydrocarbon groups which can be substituted by groups having an oxygen function or interrupted by non-adjacent oxygen atoms; R , R and R , independently of one another, designate hydrogen or saturated or unsaturated C1-C12 hydrocarbon groups which can be substituted by groups having an oxygen function or interrupted by non-adjacent oxygen atoms, R and R being able to form a five- or six-member ring together with the corresponding imidazole carbon atoms; and X stands for an anion. These substances are used for protecting nonferrous metals against corrosion, in particular for protecting radiators in the automotive field.

    Abstract: Boric acid alkanolamine esters of formula B(OR)3 are used for deliming in leather prodn. R = H or gp. of formula (alkylene-O)n-(C(R1)H)m-NR2R3, or 2 R gps. together form gp. of formula (alkylene1)2 N-R3, or 3 R gps. together form gp. of formula -(alkylene1)3-N and at least 1 R is not H; alkylene is 2-6C; alkylene1 is 2-3C; R1 = H, Me or Et; R2 = H, 1-4C alkyl or Ph; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl; n = 0-6; m = 2-10. ADVANTAGE - Evolution of H2S during deliming is limited. In an example, (A) a mixt. of 149g of tiethanolamine and 62g of orthoboric acid was heated at 80-83 deg. C, with removal of water at 25 mbars. The yield of triester was almost quantitative. (B) 100 pts. of steeped, delimed oxhide was soaked in a 50% bath contg 2% of the ester from (A), at 30 deg. C. After 30 mins., the pH was 8.9 and the H2S concn. was 140 ppm. After a further 60 mins., the hide was delimed, the H2S concn. was O and the pH was 9.2. The hides were clean and bright. Further treatment gave a soft, evenly dyed leather with very fine grain.
