Abstract: In ruthenium complexes of general formula A or B, X , X independently represent single or multidentate anionic ligands; R, R', R'' independently represent hydrogen or optionally substituted C1-20-alkyl, C6-20-aryl or C7-20-alkylaryl radicals; and L , L independently represent neutral electron donor ligands which are co-ordinated at the metallic centre as carboids, and which can be linked by a bridge W having 0 to 20 carbon atoms. Said bridge can be a constituent of a cyclic or aromatic group and can be split by heteroatoms, with the exception of C,N-heterocyclic five-membered ring systems.

Abstract: Cationic ruthenium complexes are of specified formula. Cationic ruthenium complexes are of formula (A) and (B): X = anion which is weakly or not coordinated to the metal center; Y = anionic ligand; R and R' = H or optionally substituted 1-20C alkyl, 6-20C aryl or 7-20C alkylaryl; and L1, L2, L3 and L4 = neutral electron donor ligands. An Independent claim is also included for a process for producing the cationic ruthenium complexes comprising reacting a neutral vinylidene complex of formula: RuY(R')(CCHR)L1L2 with R X X = anion which is weakly or not coordinated to the metal center or complex anion; and R = alkyl, aryl, akylaryl or complex cation of the LH type or reacting a compound of the type RuYY'(CHR)L1L2 where, Y = Y'; X = anion which is weakly or not coordinated to the metal center or complex anion; and R = alkyl, aryl, akylaryl or complex cation of the LH type. R X = CF3SO3H, F3CCO2H, HclO4, HBF4, HPF6, HSbF6 or (PhNMe2H)(B(C6F5)4).
