Abstract: Symmetrical or asymmetrical bis-phosphino, bis-arsino or phosphino-arsino compounds are produced by reacting a dihalo-organic compound with two benzyl-diorganyl-phosphine or -arsine compounds which may or may not be identical and then hydrogenating the product. A process for the production of compounds of formula (V) involves reaction of a compound of formula (I) with a dihalo compound (II) and a compound of formula (III) followed by hydrogenation. Hal-X-Hal (II) R R E-X-ER R (V) E = phosphorus or arsenic; X = a bridging group with 1-10 atoms between the atoms of E; R , R , R , R = 1-20C alkyl, 3-10C cycloalkyl, aryl or heteroaryl with up to 4 condensed rings, or 7-20C aralkyl (all optionally substituted), or R , R and/or R , R together may form 2-20C alkylene, arylene or heteroarylene groups with up to 4 condensed rings, or 7-20C aralkylene (all optionally substituted; R -R = H, hydroxyl, halogen, acyl, CHO, 1-12C alkyl or 6-12C aryl, with the proviso that R and R are not both OH; Hal = F, Cl, Br or I; R -R = as defined for R -R .

Abstract: The invention relates to ruthenium complexes of the general formulas (I) RuX2(=CH-CH2R)L1L2 or (IV) RuXY(=CH-CH2R)L1L2, where X, Y are anionic ligands, R is hydrogen or a possibly substituted C1-C20 alkyl rest or C6-C20 aryl rest, and L1 and L2 independently of each other are neutral electron donor ligands. Said ruthenium complexes are produced by (a) reacting RuX3 with L1 and L2 in an inert solvent in the presence of a reducing agent and hydrogen, and (b) by reacting the resulting product with compounds of the general formula (II) RCCH, where R has the meaning given above, possibly in the presence of water and possibly after isolation of the intermediate stage with HY, (HL1)Y or (HL2)Y.

Said bridge can be a constituent of a cyclic or aromatic group and can be split by heteroatoms, with the exception of C,N-heterocyclic five-membered ring systems.

Abstract: Cationic ruthenium complexes are of specified formula. An Independent claim is also included for a process for producing the cationic ruthenium complexes comprising reacting a neutral vinylidene complex of formula: RuY(R')(CCHR)L1L2 with R X X = anion which is weakly or not coordinated to the metal center or complex anion; and R = alkyl, aryl, akylaryl or complex cation of the LH type or reacting a compound of the type RuYY'(CHR)L1L2 where, Y = Y'; X = anion which is weakly or not coordinated to the metal center or complex anion; and R = alkyl, aryl, akylaryl or complex cation of the LH type. R X = CF3SO3H, F3CCO2H, HclO4, HBF4, HPF6, HSbF6 or (PhNMe2H)(B(C6F5)4).

Said ruthenium complexes are produced by a) reacting RuX3 with a diene in a solvent on the basis of one or several aliphatic secondary alcohols in the presence of a reducing adjuvant, reacting said mixture with L and L in the presence of at least one coordinating weak base and hydrogen and without isolating any intermediates, b) reacting the mixture with compounds of general formula (II): R-C=CH, wherein R has the meaning indicated above, in the presence of a soluble chloride source.
