    Abstract: PURPOSE:To form an oxygen-containing functional group effective for improving bond strength of resin at low voltage and in a short time without problems of corrosion of device, by using carbon yarn as an anode and carrying out electrolytic treatment in an aqueous solution of an organic strongly alkali substance or an weakly acidic salt thereof. CONSTITUTION:Carbon yarn is used as an anode and electrolytic treatment is efficiently carried out in an aqueous solution of an organic strongly alkali substance or an weakly acidic salt thereof at low voltage (2-35 volt) and in a short time (3-30 seconds) to form an oxygen-containing functional group effective for improving bond strength to various kinds of resins. A tetraalkylammonium hydroxide such as compounds wherein the alkyl group is methyl group, ethyl group, propyl group or butyl group may be cited as the organic strongly alkali substance and a salt of the tetraalkylammonium hydroxide and formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, carbonic acid or bicarbonic acid as the weakly acidic salt of the organic strongly alkali substance.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:Carbon fibers, having a specific high average fiber tensile strength and tensile strength of resin-impregnated strand and further ultrahigh-strength fiber properties and capable of giving composite materials having an ultrahigh strength with very little resin dependence and exhibiting ultrahigh-strength composite properties. CONSTITUTION:Ammonia is blown into a solution of a copolymer of acrylonitrile with a small amount of itaconic acid, etc., to modify the copolymer, and the reultant solution is extruded and spun through a spinneret into a coagulation bath. The resultant fibers are then washed with water and dried to give acrylic fibers, which are heat-treated in air at 240-260 deg.C temperature and then carbonized by increasing the temperature to 1,200 deg.C in nitrogen atmosphere to afford carbon fibers. The carbon fibers are treated in a treating bath filled with an aqueous solution of nitric acid while applying a positive voltage thereto and heat-treated in nitrogen atmosphere at 700 deg.C to give the aimed carbon fibers having at least 530kg/mm average fiber tensile strength and >=650kg/mm tensile strength of a resin-impregnated strand.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:An acrylonitrile polymer solution of a specific intrinsic viscosity is made into fibers through a specific dry-wet process, drawn, then subjected to the secondary drawing at a specific draw ratio to give the titled fibers of ultrafineness, high strength and reduced fusion between filaments. CONSTITUTION:An acrylonitrile polymer solution of more than 2 intrinsic viscosity and more than 1,000 poise solution viscosity at 45 deg.C is filtered with a filter of less than 5mu sieve opening. The resultant spinning dope is extruded through a spinneret having 50 or more nozzle holes of less than 0.12mmphi diameter into air or inert gas atmosphere and allowed to run therein, then introduced into a coagulation bath. The resultant fiber yarn is washed with water, drawn and dried, further subjected to the second drawing so that the total draw ratio exceeds 10 based on their original filament length to give the objective fibers of higher than 10g/d tensile strength, higher than 4g/d loop strength and less than 1 denier filament fineness.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound in high yield, by reacting an alpha,omega- bis(phenoxy)alkane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid which is a raw material for a polyester as a starting material with chlorine in a 2-6C halogenated lower fatty acid as a solvent. CONSTITUTION:An alpha,omega-bis(phenoxy)alkane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid or an ester thereof is reacted with chlorine in a 2-6C halogenated lower fatty acid, e.g. monochloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid or trichloroacetic acid, as a slovent to give an alpha,omega-bis(2,6-dichlorophenoxy)alkane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid which is an aromatic dicarboxylic acid containing four chlorine atoms linked to the given positions of the benzene nucleus or an ester thereof. USE:A raw material for fiber-forming polyesters having a high elasticity and self-extinguishing characteristics.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for PET at a high reaction rate economically, by esterifying terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol batchwise while retaining part of the reflux from a rectifying column between the bottom of the rectifying column and a reactor. CONSTITUTION:Terephthalic acid is esterified with ethylene glycol (hereinafter referred to as EG) batchwise in an esterification reactor 3 with a rectifying column 7 while retaining part of the reflux in a reflux retaining pot 12 provided between the rectifying column 7 and the reactor 3 to give the titled compound. The pot 12 is characterized by an overflow line 14, a reflux line leading the retained EG to the reactor 3 and a reflux line 16 connecting to the rectifying column 17. The titled compound with a low content of diethylene glycol can be obtained stably, and the method and the apparatus are effective for measures of energy conservation and resource saving.

CONSTITUTION:The oil pickup of a polyester filament yarn (FY) is controlled at 0.3wt% or less, preferably 0.2wt% or less, by reducing the amount of the oil in application, or removing the oil after drawing, most preferably removing the oil after processing into a cord.
