Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a voice coil motor with high precision and stability for a long period by giving positive feedback with the first loop gain in a head parking or unparking operation mode, and negative feedback together with the second loop gain in any other operation mode. SOLUTION: In the head parking and head unparking operation mode of a voice coil motor drive circuit 30, a switch 65 responds to a control signal from a control logical connected to a control terminal 69 and gives an opening circuit to between the first and second terminals 67, 68 of the switch 65. The switch 70 responds to the control signal connected to a control terminal 74 from the control logical to give a short circuit to between terminals 72, 74. In any other operation mode, the switch 65 gives a short circuit to between the first and second terminals 67, 68. The switch 70 separates the output terminal 61 of a ramping amplifier 55 from the input terminal 79 of a feedback amplifier 80 to permit the ramping amplifier 55 to be inoperative.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce congestion and frame loss of a port receiver by aborting an inputted frame by which frame overflow is generated in a FIFO memory. SOLUTION: Four network controllers 40 are connected with a 32 bit system bus which is connected with a host system 43. A host microprocessor 44 is connected with a system bus 42 as well as a common memory sub-system 46. A status error indicator in a reception FIFO memory to indicate the frame overflow in the FIFO memory is generated. An early stage congestion interrupt is generated from the FIFO memory to a communication processor after generation of the status error indicator. Furthermore, an instruction is generated from the host processor 44 to the FIFO memory to abort the inputted frame by which the frame overflow is generated. And the number of words of burst dimension of a memory access unit is directly increased or time slice of other active process is corrected.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light and inexpensive power circuit driving the capacitive load of an electroluminescent panel and the like. SOLUTION: A phase inverter 12 has an input terminal connected to the output terminal of a differential amplifier 11 and outputs two output signals whose phases are opposite. A push pull driving circuit 13 has primary and secondary input terminals connected to the phase inverter, and has primary/ secondary output terminals connected to a switching element that is mutually turned on/off by driving it by the two output signals which are supplied from the output terminal of the phase inverter and whose phases are opposite. A single turn transformer 14 has taps 14a and 14b connected to a power terminal and a tap 14c connected to primary/secondary output terminals in the push pull driving circuit. Thus, the capacitive load of the electroluminescent panel 16 and the like can be connected to both sides of the single turn transformer.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent details of an image from being fogged by extracting a global metric from the image, estimating a local metric relating to a target pixel and its adjacent pixels, deciding a difference between gray levels and using a dual-ramp generator so as to smooth the gray level. SOLUTION: An image is stored in a line memory 102 for processing. The line memory 102 generates a processing window, in which the image is processed. The output of the line memory 102 is given to a global metric detector 104. The global metric detector 104 receives the image and uses a derivative for extracting image attributes such as amplitude, position of end points, and texture description for the analysis of the image. For example, a Sobel operator is used to conduct both the differential processing and smoothing. The smoothing compensates noise generated by extracting the derivative of pixels.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To integrate a variable capacitor in a semiconductor device through the use of regular manufacturing technology and substance, by constructing a stacked constitution body having a dielectric membrane which can be moved in fixed plates that are mutually detached and in a space between the plates, namely, in a gap. SOLUTION: A variable capacitor has a flexible membrane 14 and it exists on a lower side containing a first conductor 18 which is parallel to a second conductor 20 and is detached from it. The flexible membrane 14 is dielectric substance and is composed of silicon nitride. The flexible membrane 14 has a peripheral part 32 and the peripheral part 32 is supported by a semiconductor substrate 24 through an intermediate layer. The membrane 14 has a beam 36 which partially extends into a gap 22 between the first and second conductors 18 and 20. The membrane 14 has flexibility and can freely move in the gap 22. The beam 36 extends downward in the gap 22 and it is abutted on the upper face of a nitride layer 30.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage of head, disk and recording information by moving first the head toward the internal diameter of recording medium, then toward the external diameter and finally stopping on a lamp located at the external diameter. SOLUTION: At the time of parking a head 40, a control current being supplied to an actuator motor 16 is usually cut off and a drive current is then supplied to the actuator motor 16 from a driver circuit 150 supplying the drive current to a 3-phase DC brushless spindle motor. First, the head 40 is moved in the internal diameter direction of disk 18 until an actuator arm 14 is in contact with an internal side crush stop 56. Next, the driver circuit 150 supplies a high voltage to drive the spindle motor to the actuator motor 16 and the head 40 is located at the flat part of lamp 60 considering amount of movement to be accumulated while the head 40 moves to the external diameter 54 crossing the disk 18.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily and exactly identify a CMOS image array including a pixel provided with a leaky access switch by judging that the selected pixel is provided with the leaky access switch when the output of the pixel is considerably deviated from a scheduled value. SOLUTION: A read line corresponding to a pixel under testing at pressure is reset to a reset voltage and the pixel is held for a time Vtest of a prescribed length. Then, a defect analytic block 24 selects the first pixel to be evaluated. The evaluation includes the determination of an output voltage related to electric charges on that pixel. Typically, this output voltage is converted to a digital signal by an analog/digital converter 18. From this digital value, a logic block 24 determines whether that pixel has real output charges considerably smaller than the scheduled output charges or not. At such a time point, the logic block 24 determines whether than pixel has a leaky access switch or not.
