Abstract: Flexible foams based on olefin polymers or thermoplastic polyesters comprise more than 40% open cells and have a density of less than 300 g/l and an average cell diameter of less than 0.1 mm. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a process for producing the foams, comprising extruding a polymer melt together with 2-40 wt.% of a strongly nucleating liquid propellant; and (2) use of flexible, open-celled, microcellular extruder foams based on thermoplastic polymers to produce liquid-absorbing hygiene articles. 24

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing paper, paperboard and cardboard in the presence of an aqueous suspension of components containing fine-particles of filler material. The fine-particle filler materials are covered at least partially with water-soluble amphoteric copolymers. Said method consists in adding to the fibre suspension, prior to the formation of the sheet, and in addition to the aqueous suspension of components containing fine-particles filler material, at least one cationic and/or amphoteric polymer which, as a structural element, does not contain any ester unsaturated carboxylic acids with quaternised amino alcohols.

Abstract: Aqueous elutriations of fine-particled filling materials which are at least partially coated with polymers and which can be obtained by treating aqueous elutriations of fine-particled filling materials with at least one water-soluble amphoteric copolymer which can be obtained by copolymerization of (a) at least one n-vinylcarboxylic acid amide of formula (III), wherein R1, R2 = H or C1- C6-alkyl, (b) at least one monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid with 3 -8 C atoms per molecule and/or the alkali metal, earth alkali metal or ammonium salts thereof and optionally (c) other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers which are free of nitrile groups, and optionally (d) compounds comprising two ethylenically unsaturated double bonds per molecule, and subsequent partial or full hydrolysis separation of groups CO-R1 from the monomers III polymerized inside the copolymer. The invention also relates to methods for the production of aqueous elutriations and the use thereof as additives to paper material in the production of paper containing filling materials, cardboard containing filling materials or paperboard containing filling materials by dewatering said paper material.

Abstract: Hydrophilic open-celled resilient foams containing melamine-formaldehyde resins, characterized by a droplet absorption rate of less than 5 seconds and an EU standard EN ISO 14184-1 formaldehyde emission of less than 100 mg of formaldehyde/kg of foam, and obtainable by(a) heating an aqueous solution or dispersion each containing at least a melamine-formaldehyde precondensate, an emulsifier, a blowing agent and a curing agent to form a foam and crosslink the precondensate,(b) then conditioning the foam at from 120 to 300° C. for from 1 to 180 minutes to remove volatiles, and(c) treating the foam during the conditioning or thereafter with at least one hydrophilicizer and/or with ozone, a corona discharge or a plasma,are useful in hygiene articles to acquire, distribute and immobilize body fluids.
