    Abstract: Emulsions containing polyether alcohols are used in the production of hard foams based on isocyanates to improve the temperature stability of the foams. Storage-stable halogen-free emulsions used in the production of hard foams based on isocyanates contain: (a) compounds containing hydrogen atoms reactive towards isocyanate groups; (b) water; (c) halogen-free propellants; and optionally (d) usual auxiliary aids and/or additives. (a) is used in an amount of 0.2-80 wt.% and has a functionality of more than 1.5, and an OH number of 10-100 mg KOH/g. (c) consists of 3-10 C hydrocarbons. Independent claims are also included for: (1) the production of the hard foams described; (2) the foams, and (3) the use of the polyether alcohols described.

    Abstract: The production of rigid polyurethane (PUR) foam with a low bulk density (I) comprises reacting (a) polyisocyanates and/or modified polyisocyanates with (b) high-mol. wt. compound(s) with at least two reactive hydrogens and optionally (c) low-mol. wt. chain-extenders and/or crosslinkers in presence of (d) blowing agents, (e) catalysts and optionally (f) other additives etc. Component (d) consists of a mixture of (d-1) cyclopentane, (d-2) at least one 3-4C alkane and/or alkene which forms a homogeneous mixture with cyclopentane and (d-3) the carbon dioxide from the reaction of water and isocyanate.     Abstract: Lignin containing polyhydroxy compounds are claimed which are prepared by reacting a solution, comprising lignin of salt content, based on Na and K ions, of 5000-15000 ppm, a polyalkylene glycol(s) from polyethylene glycols and/or polypropylene glycols giving a total OH functionality of at least 2 and optionally an OH, NH or NH2 functional compound(s) of H functionality at least 2, with an alkylene oxide(s). Also claimed are the preparation of the above compounds, the preparation of compact or flexible polyurethanes by reacting high mol wt. compounds with at least two reactive H atoms, preferably polyhydroxy compounds, and lignin containing polyhydroxy compounds with optionally modified organic polyisocyanates, optionally in the presence of chain extenders and/or crosslinkers, propellants, catalysts and aids and the obtained compact or cellular polyurethanes. Preferably the polyalkylene glycols have a mol. wt. of 400-4000, preferably 600-1500 and a polypropylene glycol content of 0-50, especially 0-10%. The lignin has a salt content of 5000-12000 ppm. The functional compound is an at least diol, sugar alcohol, saccharide, amino alcohol or aliphatic or aromatic amine. The high mol wt. compounds have a functionality of 2-8 and an OH number of 25-500, preferably from polythioether polyols, polyester amides, OH containing polyacetals and polycarbonates, polyester polyols, polyether polyols and/or polymer-modified polyether polyols. The propellant is water and/or 3-7C alkanes.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a microcellular PU elastomer with improved dynamic-mechanical characteristics, based on an isocyanate component consisting essentially of 4,4'-MDI and other standard components. The elastomer in question has a physical-chemical structure characterised by a one- or two-peak signal next to the low-molecular main signal for an (apparent) molar mass of greater than 250,000 g/mol as measured by gel-permeation chromatography from a solution of the microcellular PU elastomer produced at 90 DEG C in N,N-dimethylformamide with 1 % di-n-butylamine, against polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) as the standard, the signal being reduced or eliminated following addition of lithium chloride to this solution. The elastomer has a urea content of 14-18 wt %. Also disclosed are a process for producing such a microcellular PU elastomer with improved dynamic-mechanical characteristics and the use of said elastomer to produce damping elements.
