Abstract: Free-radical polymerization of at least one of water-soluble N-vinyl lactam and at least one of hydrophobic comonomer, is carried out in an organic solvent, in presence of initiator under reflux conditions, such that at least 10 mol% of N-vinyl lactam is added to polymerization mixture after at least 90 mol% of hydrophobic monomer is completely reacted. Thus, a vinyl lactam copolymer is produced.

Abstract: Procedimiento para la preparación de un 2,2'-dihidroxi-bifenilo por asociación oxidativa de dos moléculas de fenol, que presentan en una posición "o" un átomo de hidrógeno, mediante un peróxido en presencia de agua a una temperatura en el rango entre 0° C y 100° C, caracterizado porque se realiza la preparación en presencia de un polímero insoluble en agua, que contiene: a) 0,1 a 99,9 % en peso de por lo menos un heterociclo vinílico; b) 0,1 a 10 % en peso de por lo menos un componente de reticulación difuncional; c) 0 a 99,8 % en peso de estireno o por lo menos un derivado de estireno insaturado simple o sus mezclas, en donde los datos de % en peso de los componentes individuales a), b) y c) se suman al 100 %.

Abstract: The invention is a process for preparing tetraalkyl-substituted biphenol which comprises reacting a 2,4- or 2,6-dialkyl substituted phenol in which the alkyl groups contain 1 to 6 carbon atoms with a peroxidase enzyme in the presence of a peroxide in an aqueous medium to yield a tetraalkyl-substituted biphenol by oxidative coupling of the 2,4- or 2,6-dialkyl substituted phenol, or yielding a tetra-alkyl substituted quinone, and reducing the quinone to obtain a tetraalkyl-substituted biphenol. The invention further includes a process for preparing a tetraaryl-substituted biphenol in which the aryl groups contain 6 to 10 carbon atoms which comprises racting a 2,4 or 2,6 diarylphenol with a peroxidase enzyme to yield a tetraaryl-substituted biphenol. A process for reducing a tetraalkyl-substituted quinone to corresponding tetraalkyl-substituted biphenol which comprises reducing the quinone with a phenol in an aqueous medium at a temperature of about 60° to 120° C. is also included.
