Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the recovery of pyridine and 3-methyl pyridine from the gas mixtures obtained in the catalytic reaction of acrolein or acetaldehyde and acrolein with ammonia by cooling the gas mixtures and working up the condensate precipitated during cooling, wherein the gas mixtures are cooled first to temperatures of from 40 to about 80.degree.C and then to temperatures of from about 10 to below 40.degree.C.
