Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer having improved absorption amount, absorbing rate, gel strength in swelling, etc., by polymerizing a hydrophilic monomer in the presence of specific amounts of a polymerization initiator and a crosslinking agent, adjusting the water content of the prepared polymer to a specific range and crosslinking again. CONSTITUTION:A carboxyl or carboxylate group-containing water-soluble polymerizable monomer (e.g. acrylic acid, etc.) is polymerized and crosslinked in the presence of both (A) 0.01-0.15mol% based on the monomer of a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator (e.g. sodium persulfate, etc.) and (B) 2X10 -8X10 mol% based on the monomer of a polyglycerol chain-containing crosslinking agent (e.g. polyglycerol polyacrylate, etc.) or a polyoxyalkylene chain-containing crosslinking agent having 3-200 oxyalkylene units on the average, the prepared polymer is adjusted to 10-40wt%, especially 15-35wt% water content and the polymer is further crosslinked by the use of (C) a water- soluble crosslinking agent (e.g., polyglycidyl ether, etc.) containing two or more reactive crosslinking groups.

Abstract: PURPOSE:The titled dispersant which can stabilize a polymerization system in reverse phase suspension polymerization and consistently give small polymer granules free of fine polymer particles, obtained by copolymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer with a specified monomer. CONSTITUTION:At least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer (A) having a 6C or higher alkyl group and/or an aromatic ring [e.g., 6-36C alkyl (meth) acrylate] is copolymerized with 3-40wt% at least one monomer (B) having at least one amide group in the molecule (e.g., N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) to obtain the titled oil-soluble copolymer of a MW of 3,000-500,000. A 15-80wt% aqueous solution containing a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer and optionally other water-soluble monomers is (co)polymerized in the presence of 0.1-10wt% above-produced dispersant and a polymerization initiator in at least one solvent selected from among aliphatic hydrocarbons, alicyclic hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons all of which have a b.p. of 30-200 deg.C.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a highly water-absorbing resin composition which gives a sanitary water absorbent freed from radical-generating species, iron ions, etc., contained in the absorbed body fluid by adding a specified diphosphonic acid to a highly water-absorbing resin such as a crosslinked polyacrylate. SOLUTION: A diphosphonic acid represented by the formula (wherein R is a 5-23C hydrocarbon group) or its salt (B) is added to a highly water- absorbing resin (A). In the formula, R is a linear or branched alkyl, a cycloalkyl, an alkenyl, an aryl or the like. It is particularly desirably a 11-17C alkyl. It is most desirable from the viewpoint of water-absorbing performances that component A is a crosslinked polyacrylate. One hundred (100) pts.wt. component A is mixed with 0.0001-20, particularly desirably 0.01-5 pts.wt. component B. Component B is added to component A, for example, in such a way that it is added in the form of a powder or that its aqueous dispersion or its solution in a hydrophilic organic solvent is infiltrated into component B and dried. The highly water-absorbing resin containing component B is resistant against decomposition and deterioration even in the presence of L-ascorbic acid, hydrogen peroxide, iron ions, copper ions and water contained in the body fluid.
