Abstract: The invention relates to a novel emulsified composition comprising (a) major amount of an aqueous phase, (b) a minor amount of an organic phase and (c) a minor but effective amount of at least one emulsifier to emulsify the aqueou s and organic phase resulting in a water in oil emulsified lubricants, in particular an emulsified greases. Further, the present invention provides a process for making the emulsified compositions.

Abstract: This invention relates to compositions which are useful as additives in lubricants and fuels, and more particularly, to additives which are chlorine-free or contain only minor amounts of chlorine. More particularly, carboxylic compositions are described which are prepared by reacting a terpolymer derived from a mixture of monomers comprising ethylene, an alphaolefin containing 3 to about 20 carbon atoms, and a non-conjugated polyene with an alpha,beta-monounsaturated dicarboxylic acid or reactive derivative thereof. These carboxylic compositions may be used in lubricating oil or fuel compositions or may be used to form carboxylic derivative compositions which are useful in lubricating oil and fuel compositions. Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for reducing the chlorine content of an organochlorine compound comprising: introducing into the organochlorine compound, at least one acid selected from the group consisting of Lewis acids, mineral acids other than hydriodic acid and hydrobromic acid, and organic acids having a pKa of less than about 2 to form a mixture, and contacting the organochlorine compound with the at least one acid in the mixture for a sufficient amount of time to reduce the chlorine content of the organochlorine compound. In another embodiment, a process is described for reducing the chlorine content of an organochlorine compound comprising contacting the organochlorine compound with (a) at least one acid selected from the group consisting of Lewis acids, mineral acids other than hydriodic acid and hydrobromic acid, and organic acids having a pKa of less than about 2, and (b) a source of iodine or bromine for a sufficient amount of time to reduce the chlorine content of the organochlorine compound. The present invention relates to a process for reducing the chlorine content of an organochlorine compound comprising: introducing into the organochlorine compound, at least one Lewis acid to form a mixture, and contacting the organochlorine compound with the Lewis acid in the mixture in the absence of elemental carbon for a sufficient amount of time to reduce the chlorine content of the organochlorine compound. In another embodiment, a process is described for reducing the chlorine content of an organochlorine compound comprising contacting the organochlorine compound with (a) at least one acid selected from the group consisting of Lewis acids, mineral acids other than hydriodic acid and hydrobromic acid, and organic acids having a pKa of less than about 2, and (b) a source of iodine or bromine in the absence of elemental carbon for a sufficient amount of time to reduce the chlorine content of the organochlorine compound. In other embodiments, the organochlorine compounds may comprise a chlorine-containing polyalkenyl succinic anhydride, and a chlorinecontaining reaction product of a polyisobutylene and maleic anhydride prepared in the presence of chlorine. Polyalkenylsuccinic anhydrides treated in accordance with the method of the present invention to reduce the chlorine content thereof may be further reacted with a polyamine or a polyol, or a mixture of a polyamine and a polyol to form the compounds which are useful as dispersants in lubricating oil compositions. Such dispersants and lubricatingoil compositions also are described herein.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of lubricating the bearings of solid fuel pulverizers, for example, coal pulverizers. The method involves supplying to the bearings a lubricating composition designed to have superior performance compared to conventional coal pulverizer bearing lubricants. The invention also provides a bearing lubricant for a coal pulverizer as well as its use in coal pulverizing equipment to improve the service life and/or durability of bearings in coal pulverizing equipment. The invention also provides an additive composition for use in a bearing lubricant for a coal pulverizer, as well as the use of the additive composition to improve the service life and/or performance of the bearing lubricant.
