A PLURALITY OF TERMINALS(58A, 58B) ARE RECEIVED IN THE SAID TRANSVERSELY SPACED CAVITIES(38A, 38B). THE SAID TERMINALS(58A, 58B) ARE IN PAIRS FOR ENGAGING THE SAID CONTACT PADS(30A, 30B) ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE SAID PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD(28). ONE TERMINAL IN EACH PAIR IS DISPOSED IN A RESPECTIVE ONE OF THE SAID TRANSVERSELY SPACED CAVITIES(38A, 38B). RECESSES(46, 52) ARE PROVIDED IN THE SAID TRANSVERSE WALLS(40) BETWEEN THE SAID CAVITIES(38A, 38B) FOR ACCOMMODATING CARRIER STRIP CUTOFFS(68,78) PROJECTING FROM THE SAID TERMINALS(58A, 58B). Abstract: The electrical connector includes an elongated dielectric housing having an elongated slot disposed generally along a longitudinal axis of the housing for receiving, edgewise, a printed circuit board. A number of terminals are inserted through a bottom terminating face of the housing into a plurality of passages along at least one side of the slot. Each terminal includes a retention portion press-fit in a retention section of a respective passage. The retention section includes inner side walls and an outer side wall which guides, locates and supports the retention portion and, thereby, the terminal within its respective passage. The retention area of the outer side wall is substantially greater than the retention area of the inner side walls.

Abstract: An edge connector (20) is provided for a printed circuit board (94) having a mating edge (94a) and a plurality of contact pads adjacent the edge. The connector includes an elongated dielectric housing (22) having a board-receiving slot (24) for receiving the mating edge of the printed circuit board. A plurality of spring contact elements (48, 50) are mounted in the housing along at least one side of the slot. The spring contact elements have spring contact portions (48a, 50a) extending into the slot for contacting respective ones of the contact pads on the printed circuit board. A surface (52) on the housing at the one side of the slot defines a datum plane beyond which the spring contact portion of at least one of the spring contact elements extends into the slot. A biasing spring (58, 66, 78, 114) biases the printed circuit board against the surface, thereby deflecting the spring contact portion of the at least one spring contact element a predetermined amount.

Abstract: A SIMM socket with a metal latch (120) for retaining a SIMM therein is provided. The socket includes a housing (160) having a SIMM receiving slot (166) and a plurality of terminals (30) with contact beams extending into the slot. The SIMM is inserted into the slot in a first angular alignment with minimal insertion forces, and is rotted into a second alignment for achieving high quality electrical connection with the contact beams of the respective terminals. A metal latch (120) is provided for releasably retaining the SIMM in the preferred angular alignment within the socket. The latch is stamped and formed from a unitary piece of metallic material and includes a housing engaging portion (122) mounted around a mounting post (174) of the housing and a deflectable SIMM engaging portion (130). The housing includes walls for controlling the types and ranges of deflection that are permitted for the SIMM engaging portion.

Abstract: This specification discloses a low-insertion-force connector for connecting a daughter printed circuit board to a mother board. A G- or U-shaped contact (58) is disposed in a housing so that spring arms penetrate opposing sides of the cavity (28). Mating ramp surfaces and latches (92) on latch arms (86, 88) center the connector in the housing and urge contact pads (60, 62) into electrical and mechanical contact with a base circuit board. Shrouds (22, 24) on the housing protect various portions of the connector from harmful contact with the edge of a printed circuit board when being mounted in the housing.

The socket assembly includes at least one lower tier SIMM socket (24a) that is mountable to a board (96). A carrier (62) is mounted to the board (96) in generally parallel spaced relationship to the lower tier SIMM socket (24a). At least one upper tier SIMM socket (24b) is mounted to the carrier (62) and may be supported in part by a lower tier SIMM socket (24a). The carrier (62) includes a ground shield (84) for preventing interference.
