    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester film low in dielectric loss at high temperatures and suitable for capacitors, etc., having a second-order transition temperature, a melt specific resistivity, a crystallinity, etc., each in a specified range and prepared by biaxially stretching a polymer based on PET. CONSTITUTION:About 75-95wt.% polyethylene terephthalate is mixed with about 25-5wt.% other polymer (e.g., polyarylate or polycarbonate). The mixture is melt-extruded into an unstretched film and this film is biaxially stretched to obtain an oriented film, which is then heat-treated to obtain the purpose polyester film. This polyester film has a second-order transition temperature as measured with a scanning differential calorimeter >=80 deg.C, and a difference between the second-order transition temperature and the m.p. of 100-170 deg.C, a melt specific resistivity >=1X10 .cm and a crystallinity of 8-25% as measured by X-ray diffractometry.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester film for a magnetic recording medium having superior electromagnetic transducing characteristics and traveling performance by adding a prescribed finely powered titanic acid compound to a specified polyester. CONSTITUTION:A film is formed by chiefly using a composition prepd. by adding 0.05-20wt% finely powdered MTiO3 of 0.03-2.5mum average particle size to polyester consisting essentially of structural units represented by the formula. In the compound, M is at least one kind of group IIA element. The film has >=350kg/mm Young's modulus in the longitudinal direction and 0.5-10% coefft. of thermal shrinkage at 150 deg.C. In case where M is Sr, Ca or Mg, the electromagnetic transducing characteristics are further improved. In case where the melt viscosity of the film is 500-8,000P, especially 1,000-7,000P, the traveling performance is further improved. In case where the film has 35-70Angstrom , especially 40-60Angstrom grain size and 0.935-0.975 refractive index in the thickness direction, the electromagnetic transducing characteristics are further improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester excellent in slidability, surface smoothness and abrasion resistance, by reacting a bifunctional acid component based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (functional derivative) with a glycol component in the presence of specified CaCO3 particles. CONSTITUTION:CaCO3 and 0.002-5wt% (in terms of P2O5) P are dispersed in a glycol such as ethylene glycol by means of, e.g., a high-speed disperser or a colloid mill and filtered to obtain CaCO3 particles having a geometric- means diameter (dg) of 0.02-2.0mum and a geometric standard deviation (deltag) of 2.0-3.5. A bifunctional acid component based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its functional derivative [e.g., terephthalic acid (alkyl ester)] is reacted with a glycol component based on ethylene glycol in the presence of a catalyst and 0.001-5wt%, based on the formed polyester, said CaCO3 particles.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the moldability of a polyester and the surface evenness, slipperiness, etc., of moldings, by adding a bifunctional org. compd. having a long-chain alkyl group and a hydroxyl, carboxyl or amino group to the polyester. CONSTITUTION:A bifunctional org. compd. having two functional groups selected from the group consisting of -OH, -COOR and -NHR (wherein R is H or an alkyl group- and a 6 C or higher long-chain alkyl group (e.g. 1,2-eicosanedial, 4-octadecylresorcinol) is prepd. The org. compd. is added to a polyester (e.g., polyethylene terephthalate) to obtain a desired polyester compsn. The addition is made before the completion of the polycondensation reaction in the production of the polyester to thereby react it sufficiently with a polyester component. The resultant polyester compsn. is suitable for use in the production of magnetic tapes.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a particle slurry finely dispersible in a polyester without forming coarse agglomerated particles, by dispersing inorganic compound particles in glycol using a phosphorus compound, and ammonia or a lower amine compound as dispersing agents. CONSTITUTION:In preparing a particle slurry by dispersing inorganic compound particles with an average primary particle diameter of 10mu or less in glycol, a phosphorus compound, and ammonia or a lower amine compound is used as dispersing agents. Inorganic compound particles to be used are preferably an oxide or a carbonate, especially calcium carbonate. When inorganic compound particles with an average primary particle diameter of above 10mu are applied to a polyester, they may cause yarn breakage or, may cause coarse protuberance in a film, which are undesirable.
