Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber having excellent uniformity by heating and melting a polyester to decrease the apparent viscosity below a specific level, spinning the molten polymer under a specific condition, solidifying by cooling, taking up the fiber and subjecting to drawing and thermal fixing. CONSTITUTION:A polyester having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.9-1.2 is melted by heating in such a manner as to decrease the apparent viscosity to poise at a point extruded from a spinning nozzle. The molten polymer is extruded through a multilobal spinning nozzle having 5-8 lobed cross-section under a condition satisfying the formula I (Q is extrusion rate per unit circumference length of a single nozzle; n is viscosity of polymer) and formula II (tau is shear stress; W is extrusion rate per one nozzle). The spun fiber is solidified by cooling and taken up at a spinning speed of 500-3,500m/min. Thereafter, the fiber is drawn or wound and drawn and subjected to thermal fixing at >=220 deg.C to obtain the objective rubber-reinforcing polyester fiber.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To stably obtain polyester yarn having high crimping properties only by spinning process, by delivering molten polyester from a spinneret, solidifying under a specific condition and then taking up the yarn at high speed. CONSTITUTION:Molten polyester (preferably polyethylene terephthalate copolymerized with 8-18mol.% isophthalic acid) is extruded from a spinneret, passed through a heat preserving zone having 100-250mm length from the face of the spinneret and then unsymmetrically cooled within 450mm below the spinneret by cooling air at 100-200m/min air velocity to solidify the extruded yarn. Then the yarn is taken up at >=5,000m/min take-up speed to give the aimed yarn. When the length of the heat preserving zone is H, the yarn is sprayed with cooling air having 100-150m/min air velocity within (H+100)mm below the spinneret.
