Abstract:
The subject invention relates to a peptide sequence corresponding to amino acid residues (117 to 128) of hepatitis B surface antigen and uses thereof. In particular, the peptide is an antigenic epitope and may therefore be used, for example, as a diagnostic reagent or in the production of a vaccine. Furthermore, the present invention also relates to a C(K/R)TC motif present within the peptide as well as to other peptides containing this motif.
Abstract:
A process of preparing a 6-O-methyl erythromycin A derivative using a 2'-protected, 9-etheroxime erythromycin A intermediate is provided. A preferred protecting group for the 2'-position is acetyl. 2'-protected, 9-etheroxime erythromycin A derivatives are also provided. Also disclosed is a method for inhibiting quaternary salt formation at the 3' amine without the need for 3'N-protecting groups.
Abstract:
A method is provided for preparing decapeptide and undecapeptide derivatives of LHRH by solution phase peptide chemistry as well as intermediate peptides useful in the same method.
Abstract:
A pad (101) for transmitting acoustical waves between an ultrasound probe (107) and a target surface (105). The pad (101) includes a first layer (102) having a first porous portion which defines first layer pores therethrough. The first layer pores have a first layer pore dimension. The pad (101) further includes a second layer (103) having a first porous portion which defines second layer pores therethrough. The second layer pores have a second layer pore dimension. The second layer (103) is attached to the first layer (102) to define a space (104) therebetween. The first porous portion of the first layer (102) overlies the first porous portion of said second layer (103). An ultrasound couplant (100) is disposed in the space (104) defined between the first (102) and second (103) layers. The ultrasound couplant (100) has a molecule size that is less than or substantially equal to the first layer pore dimension and less than or substantially equal to the second layer pore dimension.
Abstract:
A process for the sampling of extracellular fluid across the skin of an animal involves establishing an ultrasonic standing wave across the skin and collecting fluid transudate. Sampling can be enhanced by combining the use of ultrasound with the application of a partial vacuum to the surface of the skin. An apparatus includes an ultrasonic transducer, a reflector and an absorbent material for collecting transudate. The apparatus can further include a pressure component for reducing hydrostatic pressure on the skin surface.
Abstract:
Fluorescent conjugates suitable for use in flow cytometry and other biological applications. The fluorescent conjugates comprise an antibody having a polymeric dye bound thereto. The polymeric dye is preferably enhanced by a hydrophobic and conformationally restrictive moiety either bound thereto or in close association therewith. The hydrophobic and conformationally restrictive moiety is preferably derived from a cyclodextrin. The polymeric dye comprises a polymeric entity having signal-generating groups, such as aminostyryl pyridinium dye residues attached thereto. The fluorescent conjugates exhibit exceptional stability characteristics and avoid many of the problems of energy transfer, bio-conjugability, and solubility.
Abstract:
Provided herein is a method for analyzing a target nucleic acid to determine the number of tandemly repeated sequences, which may form a part of the target sequence, relative to a complementary oligonucleotide. Also provided is a target sequence capture reagent for capturing a target sequence which comprises a tandemly repeated sequence.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for producing an integrant(s) of Bacillus thuringiensis. The invention further relates to such integrants, compositions comprising such integrants, as well as methods for controlling a pest(s) using these compositions.
Abstract:
The present invention is a liquid nutritional product with improved physical stability comprising: (a) a liquid nutritional mixture containing fat at a concentration sufficient to have the liquid nutritional mixture be susceptible to creaming and containing suspended minerals present at a concentration sufficient to have the liquid nutritional mixture be susceptible to sedimentation; (b) a carrageenan/microcrystalline cellulose/carboxymethyl cellulose additive composition comprising: (i) iota-carrageenan present in an amount of about 100-800 ppm of the liquid nutritional product; (ii) a mixture of microcrystalline cellulose/carboxymethyl cellulose, the mixture present in an amount of from about 600-3000 ppm of the liquid nutritional product. In a preferred embodiment, microcrystalline cellulose is present in a range of from about 1000 ppm to about 2500 ppm, while the iota-carrageenan is present in a range of from about 100 ppm to about 300.
Abstract:
Immunoassay methods and reagents for measuring the levels of lead in a test sample via the quantification of porphobilinogen use antibodies prepared with compounds of Formulas (II) and (III), wherein X and Y are linking groups consisting of 0 to 2 heteroatoms and 0 to 8 carbon atoms linked to an immunogenic carrier material P wherein P is preferably bovine serum albumin. Also described are the synthesis of fluorescein tracers of the structure of Formulas (V) and (VII), wherein A and C are linking groups consisting of 0 to 2 heteroatoms and 0 to 8 carbon atoms linked to a detectable moiety Q, and wherein Q is a detectable moiety, preferably fluorescein or a fluorescein derivative.
