    Abstract: The invention relates to a catalyst for dehydrogenating 1,1-diphenylethane and substituted 1,1-diarylethanes, especially for non-oxidatively dehydrogenating 1,1-diarylethanes to 1,1-diarylethenes, based on iron, potassium and cerium. Said catalyst advantageously contains up to 90 wt. % iron, calculated as Fe2O3, 5 to 40 wt. % potassium, calculated as K2O, 0.01 to 30 wt. % cerium, calculated as Ce2O3, 0.01 to 10 wt. % magnesium, calculated as MgO, 0.01 to 10 wt. % vanadium, calculated as V2O5, 0.01 to 10 wt. % wolfram and/or molybdenum, calculated as WO3 or MoO3 and optionally, 0.01 to 5 wt. % aluminium, calculated as Al2O3 and/or 0.01 to 10 wt. % calcium, calculated as CaO. The invention also relates to a method for non-oxidatively dehydrogenating 1,1-diarylethanes, especially 1,1-diphenylethane to 1,1-diarylethenes or 1,1-diphenylethene in the presence of overheated water vapour, using a catalyst of this type.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing alkenyl aromatic compounds. Said compounds are obtained by reacting alkyl aromatic compounds with a suitable catalyst in the presence of water vapour and natural gas or methane, at a temperature of between 400 and 800 DEG C and at a pressure of between 0.01 and 10 bar, whereby the molar ratio of water vapour to alkyl aromatic compound is from 6.9:1 to 1:1, or the molar ratio of methane to alkyl aromatic compound is from 0.1:1 to 8:1.
