Abstract: The invention relates to a catalyst which contains copper and which is provided for decomposing N2O. The inventive catalyst contains a compound of general formula MxA12O4, in which M represents Cu or mixtures of Cu with Zn and/or Mg, wherein x has a value ranging from 0.8 to 1.5. The invention also relates to a method in which the inventive catalyst is used in order to catalytically decompose N2O which is pure or which is contained in a gas mixture at an increased temperature.

Abstract: In the production of 1,1-diphenylethylene (I) from the distillation residue obtained in the recovery of pure ethylbenzene produced by Friedel-Crafts alkylation of benzene with ethylene. In the production of 1,1-diphenyl ethylene: (i) the residue is enriched to a diphenylethane (II) content >= 75 wt.% by distillation in the presence of a base and optionally a free radical polymerization inhibitor; (ii) the enriched mixture is dehydrogenated over a catalyst containing iron; and (iii) (I) is isolated by distillation, optionally with addition an ancillaries.

Abstract: The invention relates to a catalyst for dehydrogenating 1,1-diphenylethane and substituted 1,1-diarylethanes, especially for non-oxidatively dehydrogenating 1,1-diarylethanes to 1,1-diarylethenes, based on iron, potassium and cerium. Said catalyst advantageously contains up to 90 wt. % iron, calculated as Fe2O3, 5 to 40 wt. % potassium, calculated as K2O, 0.01 to 30 wt. % cerium, calculated as Ce2O3, 0.01 to 10 wt. % magnesium, calculated as MgO, 0.01 to 10 wt. % vanadium, calculated as V2O5, 0.01 to 10 wt. % wolfram and/or molybdenum, calculated as WO3 or MoO3 and optionally, 0.01 to 5 wt. % aluminium, calculated as Al2O3 and/or 0.01 to 10 wt. % calcium, calculated as CaO. The invention also relates to a method for non-oxidatively dehydrogenating 1,1-diarylethanes, especially 1,1-diphenylethane to 1,1-diarylethenes or 1,1-diphenylethene in the presence of overheated water vapour, using a catalyst of this type.
