    Abstract: Manufacture of carboxamides by the addition of water to nitriles in the presence of a copper-containing and magnesium silicate-containing catalyst which has been treated with a reducing gas. The carboxamides obtained by the process of the invention are valuable starting materials for the manufacture of solvents, flocculating agents, crosslinking agents, pesticides, plant protectants, textile auxiliaries such as levelling agents, waterproofing agents, foam stabilizers and detergents.

    Abstract: 1,151,574. Cycloalkanols and cycloalkanones. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA FABRIK A.G. 16 Sept., 1966 [17 Sept., 1965], No. 41468/66. Heading C2C. A mixture of a cycloalkanol and a cyclealkanone is obtained from a cycloalkane having 5-12 ring atoms by contacting the cycloalkane with molecular oxygen at a temperature of about 80-200‹ C., a pressure to maintain the reaction mixture in the liquid phase and in the presence of a cycloalkane oxidation catalyst and a minor amount of an olefinically unsaturated compound containing 3-20 carbon atoms which can be epoxidized under the reaction conditions. Suitable cycloalkane oxidation catalysts are, for example, the salts of vanadium, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, iron, cobalt or nickel with lauric acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid and naphthenic acids or the acetylacetonates, acetonylacetonates or carbonyls of these metals. Suitable olefinically unsaturated compounds are unsaturated hydrocarbons or those containing halogen, hydroxyl, carboxyl, ester or ether substituents. Examples are given of the oxidation of cyclohexane and cyclooctane.

    Abstract: A process for the continuous production of 1,3-dioxolan-2-ones such as ethylene carbonate or propylene carbonate by reacting a corresponding oxirane with carbon dioxide in the liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst comprises conducting the reaction in a two-part reactor in whose first part the reaction is taken with backmixing to a conversion of not less than 80% of the oxirane II and in whose second part the reaction is completed under nonbackmixing conditions, and passing the carbon dioxide in countercurrent to the oxirane II in the entire reactor.

    Abstract: In a process for preparing alkoxylated amines or alcohols in which a reaction mixture comprising an amine or an alcohol or a mixture of two or more amines and/or alcohols and an alkylene oxide, or a mixture of two or more different alkylene oxides, is reacted in one or more successive reaction steps, at least one of the reaction steps is carried out in the presence of a basic catalyst and, in at least one of the reaction steps, formic acid or a salt of formic acid or a mixture of two or more thereof is present in the reaction mixture or the reaction mixture is admixed with formic acid or a salt of formic acid, or a mixture of two or more thereof, after the alkoxylation is complete. The alkoxylates prepared by the process of the present invention have a light color and a low odor.

    Abstract: The continuous prodn. of alkyl(meth)acrylates (I) by the reaction of (meth)acrylic acid (II) and 1-8C monohydric alcohols (III) in homogeneous liq. phase at elevated temp. in the absence of solvent and in presence of an acid esterification catalyst (IV). The process comprises (a) feeding (II), (III) and (IV) continuously into a reaction zone (RZ), (b) removing (I) after a residence time in the form of an azeotrope contg. water or water and (III) in addn. to (I) at the top of a rectifier column (RC) mounted over the RZ, (c) separating the distillate into an organic phase contg. (I) and aq. phase(s) contg. water, (d) recycling part of the organic phase via the top of the column and opt. returning water to the RZ, (e) separating (I) from the rest of the organic phase and removing part of the reaction mixt. continuously from the RZ. The RZ consists of a cascade of at least two reactors in series, and the outflow from one reactor provides the input flow for the next reactor. Also claimed is an appts. for this process.
